"Receiving this money means good education for our siblings, dowry payment and livestock production. I was married in the year 2014. Up to date, my husband has not yet cleared my dowry payment. My husband will to use 25,000 KES of the first transfer to clear the dowry payment. This will enable us to live in peace without any concern from my parents. We shall then use 30,000 KES of the remaining first transfer to buy 10 goats. We have been longing to be livestock farmers for the past two years. Based on the current weather condition, goats are the best option. They can survive in dry areas. The goats will be our source of income in the future. We shall be selling the goats at an extra profit once they start multiplying. We also have 2 siblings who are in secondary school. Our mother has been struggling alot to pay school fees for them. We are planning to set aside 20,000 KES to support our mother in paying the school fees for our siblings. We are also planning to use 15,000 KES to reinforce our house with pillars. The pillars will ensure durability of our house. Finally,we shall save the remaining amount of money. The savings will help us in tackling any unpredictable problem that will arise."

"Receiving this money means decent housing, livestock production and good education for my children. For the past two years, my fellow wife and I have been living in this house that is in a very bad condition. It is a house that can fall at anytime Incase of very strong winds. This makes us feel insecure to spend our nights in this house. I am planning to use a total of 30,000 KES to construct a house that will be strong and firm. A house that will accomodate us comfortably. I also have a total of 5 children who are school going. One is in secondary school and the other four in primary school. Paying school fees has been a very huge challenge for me. As at now, I have 26,000 KES fee arrears yet to clear. I will also use the money to clear all the school fee balances of my children. I also have a desire in livestock production. I intend to buy 5 goats at a total cost of 15,000 KES. Goats are a very good source of income, in that, you can sell some of them once they increase in number. For the money that will be remaining, I will use it to buy food for our household."

"Receiving this money from GiveDirectly means a more spacious house which can accommodate my family of seven. As a household, we are planning to use 40,000 KES to construct a two bedroom house. we will use a further 20,000KES to furnish the house so that it can be of the desired standard. We have been sharing one room for many years now and this has made me uncomfortable. The new two bedroom house will assure us of privacy given that our children will have their own separate room. I will use the balance to pay for my children school fees so that they can have enough study time in school."

"I joined my university a year ago but had to discontinue because my mother did not have any money to pay for my education. Hopefully, I will use the money that I might get to buy 2 heifers with KES 30,000 as assets. They will multiply and in turn sell them so that I can buy my own piece of land and also pay my school fees. I will use the other amount to pay for my second year of my university education."

"The lack of a stable source of income has been a major challenge in my family, which has caused my husband and me a lot of stress. Until recently, he used to ferry passengers for his employer to earn a living, and I sold charcoal. Our income would only be KES 3,000 a week. This money was not enough to cater for our living expenses including food, clothing and school fees for our family of five. We were happy to receive this transfer from GiveDirecly which enabled us to purchase a motorbike worth KES 40,000. My husband now earns money by ferrying passengers and can earn KES 4,000 a day. Furthermore, we spent KES 13,150 on completing the construction of our new house. My family now lives in a spacious, modern house, as opposed to the previous one which was rundown."

"I run a shop at the market center, I get like 300KES a day. This is the cash I use to feed my family, buy clothes for my children as well as paying school fees. I have nine children, my firstborn is in college, two of my children are in secondary school. The rest are in primary. Almost every month there is one child at home due to fees. Receiving this money will relieve me from the burden of paying school fees while will use the savings from my shop to cater to our basic needs."

"Receiving the first transfer was a great joy to me. I had been anticipating this money with great hope, and on confirming the receipt that morning, I was filled with joy. I had woken up a little bit earlier that day to attend to my usual where I had been helping in preparing breakfast and lunch in the nearby day school where my children are currently schooling - a job that has been keeping my children in school as all my wage had been paying school fees for them. I had to wait for my son who took a motorbike later to the nearest town where he collected the transfer."
