How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to build another house and to buy some cows. I would like to build another one because the one that I have at the moment has grown old. I would also like to own some cows so that they help me in getting income that I can use in supporting myself and my brother who is still studying at the university. I recently completed my studies at the university and I am currently on a post-attachment.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly is doing well in how they conduct their work. I like the fact that they are not corrupt in how they enroll people into the program. This hence makes the whole process to be fair to everyone. As a result, I do not see anything that I would recommend them to change.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I spent the recent transfer money on buying three sheep. I bought them at a total cost of KES 13000. I decided to buy the sheep so that they can help me in case of a financial constraint. I can sell one of them and get the money to settle the emergency. Besides the sheep, I also used KES 10000 to buy some beddings. I decided to do so because the ones that I had, had grown old and tattered. I also sent KES 7000 to my brother in the university so that he could use it for his upkeep. I saved the remaining amount of money for my upkeep too because I was about to go for my post-attachment. I am still going on with the attachment and the money has thus been helping me a lot in buying food and other necessities. I am hence so glad and grateful to GiveDirectly for the transfers. This is because I had deferred from the university before. I lacked money for paying my tuition fees. During the time that I was away, I had to engage in doing casual jobs to raise money for supporting myself and my brother who is in school. It was only until I got the transfer from GiveDirectly that I managed to go back to the university and finish my studies.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
Having been out of school for a longer period of time due to lack of school fees, when I received a notification message confirming receipt of the first transfer,I was super excited.I was happy and thankful that God had opened a way at a point I had completely lost hope.I informed my mother about it and she was happy since we were all anticipating for this cash transfer.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is having settled in school after clearing all the arrears that I had.I can now study peacefully .I am grateful to Givedirectly for coming in at a point I was struggling and almost losing hope.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
After the death of dad who was the soul breadwinner of our family things took a different turn.We use to depend on him since he used to go about his casual jobs so that he could cater for the entire family and hence with his absence everything came to a standstill. With the receipt of this transfer I was able to clear a whole year arrears balance of Kshs.43,000 hence this will enable me study for the remaining semesters. With the remaining amount I used to pay my rent and also used it as transport back to school.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I joined my university a year ago but had to discontinue because my mother did not have any money to pay for my education. Hopefully, I will use the money that I might get to buy 2 heifers with KES 30,000 as assets. They will multiply and in turn sell them so that I can buy my own piece of land and also pay my school fees. I will use the other amount to pay for my second year of my university education.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning because I always feel that I have not so many things to worry about.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship that I have faced in life is financial constraints. My father is deceased and so we have to rely on my mother for our education and food which she cannot provide at times. I have had to drop out of school in search of menial jobs so that I can support her and my siblings.
