When I started receiving transfers, I ventured into poultry farming. However, the flock occupies a vacant rental room as I build a chicken pen. So I spent the recent transfer to thatch the roof of the small mad-shed to accommodate my chickens. I purchased palm branches worth KES 2000 and compensated the laborer who handled the exercise using KES 1000.

When I received my second transfer I used it to start a poultry project. I did not have a reliable source of income but a small business and subsistence farming. Due to the unfavorable climate, whatever we harvest can not sustain our family for half a year. Poultry project is a good investment because they are not affected by the climate, and they reproduce faster. When I received my second transfer I spent it on both poultry feed and vaccines. Once all goes well then in 6 months' time I will be assured of a good income from the poultry sales.

In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by conducting fair enrollment exercises for everyone within the village. I also commend them for the good services their officers offer to us when they were enrolling us and also when doing their follow-up checks ups. Their services are good and this encourages us to continue to hold on to life and invest the money into meaningful projects.

When I received the transfer I spent KSH 300 as tithe. I believe that once I give out the tithe I will receive more blessings. In addition to that, I spent KSH 1400 buying chicken. I have always wanted to start a chicken rearing project but finances have always been a challenge for me. Upon receiving the transfer this was my priority. Once this project becomes successful I will be earning some amount from it. I also spent the remaining KSH 1300 to buy some chicken feeds. I am hopeful that the project will be a success and it will help in sustaining my family's needs.

I was very happy when I confirmed that I had received the cash. It was my happiest day. It was 8 am and I was in deep thoughts about where I was going to raise school fees since one of my children had already been sent away from school and called and told me about the situation. I spent KSH 1000 on food. I decided to spend on food. It has been a rough road for us in the past couple of months. Our farms are no longer productive as it was before. We are experiencing no rainfall at all. What we plant in our farms is disappointing due to the weather conditions we are undergoing at the moment. This has made water become very expensive and so the first thing that came to mind was spending the cash on food so that we could avoid starvation. I also spent KSH 2000 on paying school fees for my children. My children had been sent back home due to overdue school fees payment. I am happy that they are back in school and continuing with their education.
