"I plan to pay my children's school fees, buy food for them and start a business. I have a spouse but he does nothing for the children, especially when it comes to paying their school fees. I singlehandedly do the catering for their needs through burning coal and selling it. Secondly, I plan to buy enough food for us. Getting food here to feed my children is always a challenge for me, so I will use some of the money to buy enough food for the house. Lastly, I plan to start a business. I had a business before but because of these children's needs, my business broke down. Now I only depend on this plantain chips that I sell, just so that we can get food to eat." "I plan to send my children to school and use the remaining amount to start a business. My husband and I have to burn coal every time to get money to pay our children's school fees. Looking at our age now, our strength is not like before so I will use that money to pay their tuition. The next thing I plan to do is to have another source of income. I will start a business to help with the same issue, paying fees. That way, we will not have to always burn coal before we can get money and feed our children and also send them to school." "When I receive the cash transfer, I will use some to buy Iron sheets or Zinc to build my own house. I am currently living in one of my father's two bedrooms kitchen with my kids and spouse, it's really hard for us especially when it's time to cook, the smoke from the kitchen disturbs us so much that caused sickness for my children. My husband and I have plans to get our own place which we have started preparing sun dry bricks and sawing planks to get out of the current situation. I will then use some to send my children to school, because they are our future. Our source of income is burning charcoal and processing cassava into FUFU to earn money to sustain the family and execute of our plans (To build our own house) and we have not been able to pay our children school. The balance will be used to start a business to help feed the family. I was doing a small business before I got pregnant, the pregnancy couldn't permit me to continue the business because I used to walk from one Town to another to sell my goods."

"The biggest difference is paying school fees for my college child. Initially I was really struggling with my charcoal making business which couldn’t support as well as applying for bursaries which wasn’t reliable too. The second difference is the food factor. As of now my family has an access to daily food not as before when we used to take meals once a day." (Occupation: Small business)

"After withdrawing the money, I paid KES 10,000.00 school fees for my secondary school child so that he could be retained in school. I also bought 4 goats for KES 10,000.00. Since I already had a house, the bedding was pathetic. I was using a small traditional bed tied with ropes. Looking at that condition, I bought a nice standard modern bed for KES 5500.00 and a mattress for KES 3500.00. Having done that, I kept the remaining amount for the family upkeep."
