Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
One early morning I received an alert on my phone that I have received a message. Because I can not read and write, however, I have to call my brother to read my message. Upon reading the message he said to me it is your transfer that GiveDirectly has sent. I was very joyful when I saw the transfer on my phone because I needed money to pay my children tuition and I have been planning to build a house for my family.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
Before I could start receiving the transfer I have been surviving on hard work. My husband and I have to farm every year and produce charcoal to sell before we can provide for our children. However, l am thankful to God and GiveDirectly for the financial support because they have empowered us. Moreover, I'm grateful that the workload has been reduced we don't have to work hard compare to before.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
I used the money to pay my children tuition and I bought zinc and food with the balance.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I plan to pay my children's school fees, buy food for them and start a business. I have a spouse but he does nothing for the children, especially when it comes to paying their school fees. I singlehandedly do the catering for their needs through burning coal and selling it. Secondly, I plan to buy enough food for us. Getting food here to feed my children is always a challenge for me, so I will use some of the money to buy enough food for the house. Lastly, I plan to start a business. I had a business before but because of these children's needs, my business broke down. Now I only depend on this plantain chips that I sell, just so that we can get food to eat.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I have joy in my heart now because my children are back in school. Last year, because of financial problems, I never send them to school. When this school year was about to start, I was not feeling too happy because, by then, I had not raised the money to pay their tuition. But now that I have paid their fees and they are back in school, I am very happy.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
My major challenge I'm facing now is about getting my own area to lay my head. When there is rain, I will have to put dishes all over my room and even in the ceiling, so that my things don't get wet. Another challenge is getting food. My children are singlehandedly sponsored by me. My spouse don't come home soon except late nights. When he leaves the house in the morning, sometimes he don't return home. So supporting my children is a challenge.
