Winnie
received a $25 tenth payment.
"One thing I've always hoped for is for my two children to excel in school and achieve their academic goals. They are both in high school, and it has not been easy to raise their fees. I'm glad I have some money to rely on every month, and I budget for them to keep their studies going. To accomplish this, I want to make certain that I always pay their fees on time. This will allow them to remain in school. Even after they finish their studies, I hope to send them to college while I continue to receive monthly support."

"I would say my disability is the challenge I face since I cannot do what other people do but I would not be telling the truth. The main challenge that I'm facing currently, is the lack of food. Since I cannot farm I only depend on my menial work repairing plastic containers for my neighbor. However, recently work has been really low which has led to a great lack of money and also food. I also don't have water near my house and I'm forced to walk for about 5 kilometers to the nearest water point which poses a great challenge considering my disability."

"I'm faced with challenge of sickness. Since my diagnosis about 15 years ago I have been through so much in my life. However the most pressing challenge I'm facing at the moment is the lack of food. With the lack of food I sometimes fear that my health will be affected which worries me a lot."

"Due to my old age I'm unable to do most of the work such as going to the farm to plant and grow crops. This has reduced me to become dependent on my children who do farming and provide for me food. However, since there has been a prolonged drought that has lasted about 3 months our farms have become less productive. This has made my life very difficult since I sometimes have to go hungry without food. It is difficult since my children have to feed their families too and provide for me while the food they have may not be enough for all of us."

"Food insecurity is so biting, this is coming in the wake of the increased cost of living. There was a prolonged drought as a result of three failed rainy seasons and so the drought resistant crops that we used to depend on were wiped away by the scorching sun. Life has really been hard such that putting food on the table has been an uphill task, we survive on porridge just to sustain ourselves. The cost of 1 Kg of maize is going for $1.20 up from $0.6, which is unaffordable, other times we are forced to go to bed on an empty stomach. We have lived a life of misery and destitution. Even now I have no idea where the next meal will come from since I do not have a penny to buy the maize flour."

"I used to do tomato farming under irrigation and it was a source of livelihood for me but I stopped because of inadequate capital. It requires huge financing since the cost of pesticides and fertilizers has shot up. I would have loved to go back to farming but it has not been easy, more than before this was the most ideal time to do farming since we recently received long rains. I have tried all means from borrowing to trying to get a loan but to avail. It breaks my heart that the rainy season is ending without me leveraging on it."

"I am old and depend on making robes for sale. I can make very few which I sell for $0.50. This means I cannot buy enough maize flour to cook enough food for myself. I can only have one meal, that is supper because I cannot afford it. The cost of maize flour is very high which has made my life very difficult. The fact that I cannot have enough meals a day makes me sad."

"Life in this village is difficult. Planting is a problem because of the long droughts hence the unavailability of jobs. Securing a job here is difficult making it hard for us to support ourselves. We do casual jobs like weeding, planting, or harvesting. One is paid $2.50 per day which is hardly enough for us. The cost of living is high, one kilo of maize flour is $1 and it used to be $0.40. This has made our lives harder. Sometimes we're forced to sleep without eating food, just take porridge. Since the maize flour could do so little."

Riziki
received a tenth payment.
"I would like to see my four children succeed academically in the coming year and beyond. Since my husband's death, the burden has fallen on my shoulders, which seemed impossible at first because I didn't have a single source of income. Because my family's support has been minimal, I've been surviving by burning and selling charcoal, where I can earn at least $20 in two weeks. This was insufficient, given that I have six children to feed and four school fees to pay. Receiving the monthly transfer has been a huge relief for me because my children can now continue their education without interruption due to fees because I can pay for them on time. I have only one goal: to ensure that my children's education is not disrupted due to a lack of fees."
