"I spent a portion of my third transfer on transferring my son to a boarding school from the day school where she was before. I did this after realizing that in day school the boy could not dedicate his full attention to academics but rather got distracted by other external factors. I also paid school fee for another child in form one.I was so happy that the transfer relieved from the burden of paying all these fees."

"I spent my third transfer on buying building materials that I used to build my own compound as required of me by traditions. I have moved out of my grandfather's homestead. I also bought sheep that I am rearing. These are like assets. I am so happy when I hear of GiveDirectly. ***laughs.** as they have made me move a step forward. I never knew I could have my home given that I did not have the money to buy anything."

"I spent my third transfer on Secondary school fee for my daughter for 15,000 KES to enable her learn consistently, a Solar panel for 13,000 KES to enable my children study at night and get informed by watching television, and bought seats for 12, 000 KES since I owned only 1 fold-able and old-fashioned chair in my house. I spent the balance of 6,000 KES as Start -up Capital for a small scale business where I make and sell chips, and also charcoal since I am a widow and the sole bread winner for my six children. I used to do Odd Jobs for people and earned 200 KES per day, and occasionally 400 KES but then sometimes I would stay without work for more than 5 days, and it was difficult to care for my family. Since I started this small business, I make a profit of between 600 KES and 1,200 KES daily, averaging 800 KES from chips alone, and another 150 KES -250 KES after every 3 days from each bag of charcoal . From the profits I have earned since July 2017, my greatest achievement has been to buy a bicycle for 5,000 KES for my daughter who uses it as transport means for school in the morning. I figured out that my teenage girl who is a Form 2 student is delicate, and exposed to all manner of vices by men since she had to leave home at 5.00 am every morning for her to make it to the far off school by 7.00 am daily, and I used to be worried about her safety before GD supported me with the grant. I was conscious of her need for Protection, and with the bicycle , she does not have to leave home at dawn any more since the time spent to get to school has been lessened by far; she leaves at 6.00 am which is reasonable and is not in as much danger as before I received GD grants."

"I spent most of my third transfer on fencing my home which was located a long the road giving room for people to just pop in at any given time picking with them anything that they come across in the compound. That resulted me into too much losses that I could not even account for. I am happy that the problem is no more since everyone who seeks to come in must first of all knock at the gate. Other than fencing, I had shortage of kitchenware, I therefore purchased some bowls and mugs that I frequently borrowed from my neighbors whenever their needs arose. I am glad today that I own such items and doesn't have to bother the neighbor anymore."

"I spent my third transfer on buying steel windows and glass windows that I have fixed on my house. I used to have an iron sheets door that was not looking nice. The remaining I spent on buying furniture as the ones I had, had worn out and in were in very bad state. The remaining I spent on buying school uniforms and shoes for my children. I have moved a step from where I was to a grade higher. Thank you GiveDirectly."

"I used to use a kerosene lamp and I wanted to upgrade and face-lift my home, so I decided to connect my house to electric power. I am now happy as my house is well lit, and I am happy I now match my neighbors. The remaining I spent on boosting my wife's business of selling Ankara. Nowadays we cannot go to bed on empty stomachs given that the business is doing well and it helps us on buying food and other household items."
