Tobias
received a $535 initial payment.
"We were only two boys in our family, unfortunately, the other brother passed on before paying the dowry. Being the only remaining brother, the parents to the spouse could ask me every time on when I'll pay for their daughter's dowry. This couldn't give me peace and most of the day I had sleepless nights because of the debt. Currently, I'm so happy and peaceful knowing that the dowry is already cleared. This is the biggest difference in my daily life."

Rose
received a $535 initial payment.
"At first, when GiveDirectly came to our village conducting meetings promising to give us unconditional cash it sounded like jokes and empty promise as we had before with other organization. It was around 0500 hours when I was awoken by an income message. I felt so happy when I looked at it and realized it was an Mpesa message from GiveDirectly. I was so happy since I saw my dreams coming true. I felt like I was already in a new bigger and better house with the money in my mpesa account."

Florence
received a $535 initial payment.
"We were almost giving up because we had little cash to renovate our hotel according to the standard we heard in mind. As a result of Give Directly transfer, I am very grateful we managed to buy tiles and paint that we used to renovate it to the standard we wanted it to be. It now looks very neat, decent and attractive to many customers after we managed to renovate it in a more decent way to the surprise of many customers. This has increased the number of customers hence increase in my daily sale. Our living standards have improved in that we are eating a balanced diet and my children are now putting on decent clothes. This is the biggest difference in my daily life."

"My first priority is paying school fees. I have debt at my son's school for the previous term. He has stayed at home for a very long time. I got off to a rough start when the year started. My house, that I also use as a business premises got burnt. This made it hard for him to go back to school this January due to lack of money lack. He only went back to school again this previous term. I will be at peace when I get to clear this debt. Peace in that shool will keep him occupied to prevent him from joining gangs that will mislead him.
Secondly, I want to start a shop (Kiosk). I used to have one in Kiamutisya Village I, but that is where the fire broke. I want to open it again, but in a different place like in biashara street in Village 2, and for it to be storey building. This will give me some sense of security, and I will be able to run my shop.
Lastly, I would also want to shift to around village 2, and be able to buy more household goods. Shifting will help, especially my son will be able to stay away from gangs around and I will get him a new school, even if it will be a boarding school."

Secondly, I will support my daughter's education by paying her school fees. Education is the best gift a parent can give to a child, she will be completing high school next year and I want the best for her in future. Lastly, I will buy food for my family and pay rent for my house."
