"The support provided by GiveDirectly came at precisely the right time when it was most needed. It coincided with the drought season, when affording essential foodstuffs had become a challenging endeavor due to the adverse impact of the harsh weather on our farms. Therefore, when I received the assurance that I would receive financial assistance from the organization, I knew it would be a transformative moment in my life. I am married and blessed with eight children, and my wife and I rely on farming to make ends meet. Consequently, I spent $120 to purchase foodstuffs, addressing our most immediate need. Additionally, I used $60 to pay for my children's school fees, and I completed the construction of a house for them with $50. Finally, I utilized the remaining funds to acquire various household items and address other pressing needs. I am immensely relieved and grateful that we were able to achieve so much within a short period, which was not possible before due to the lack of financial resources."

"I am thrilled to share that GiveDirectly has brought about commendable changes in our village. The sight of newly constructed houses and the arrival of goats have been a source of joy for all of us here. These changes are more than just physical improvements; they represent a brighter future and newfound hope. As a beneficiary, I feel grateful for the positive changes that GiveDirectly has brought into our lives. It is inspiring to witness how these interventions have a direct and tangible impact on our well-being. Therefore, this should be replicated in other areas with similar problems as ours."

received a $306 second payment.
"Even though there is still much work to be done to ensure the safety of my crops on my farm, I am filled with hope for the remaining transfer, which I intend to use to complete the fencing project. This will not only help in preventing animal intrusions on my farm now but also prove invaluable in the coming year and beyond as I aim to further enhance my farming practices, shifting from subsistence farming to increasing the number of goats on my farm. I am deeply grateful for the support provided by GiveDirectly, which has rekindled our optimism and given us another chance to set things right once more."

Mercy
received a $306 third payment.
"I have a strong desire to dive into vegetable farming as a means to generate income. Selling my produce to local vendors seems like a promising way to support my family of five financially. My hope is that the upcoming rainy season will be more favorable, providing the water needed for a successful crop. In about a month's time, I also plan to harvest and sell the maize I have been cultivating. This additional income will be a boost to our family's finances and be a capital contribution to vegetable farming. With optimism in my heart, I am gearing up for this new venture, hoping for a fruitful harvest and a brighter future for my family."

Florence
received a $306 third payment.
"Money indeed holds the potential to address many challenges, and I have witnessed its positive impact on my family's lives. While the motorcycle taxi business we rely on does not cover all our needs, it has been a valuable source of assistance. I have always admired the concept of financial stability, and I am elated that GiveDirectly's transfers have helped turn this dream into a reality. Upon receiving the transfers, I spent $320 on goats, which I believe will become a source of income for my family as they thrive. Additionally, I used $80 of the transfers to cement the floor of my one-room house, transforming it into a dust-free and easily maintainable space. I also spent $25 on household goods , $20 on clothing and $5 on tithes, as giving back to the community remains important to me."

"I live in a grass thatched house and the walls are covered with mud. It can easily be destroyed by termites and doesn't last longer. It's one room and we share with my family of three. This is not enough for us and my children also struggle studying in this small house. This has affected my ability to stay comfortably or even host visitors."

"It's been a difficult period for the last 3 years. We've had a long drought cutting across seasons. This has led to severe water shortage. Due to our dependence of irrigation for farming, it's hard harvesting. Most of the time my farm dries due to lack of rains or water to irrigate. This has really affected my ability to establish myself. It has led to low farm productivity and I also grow a small portion of the land. This is because of inadequate water supply."
