Catherine
received a $530 second payment.
"I have made a big milestone in my life courtesy of the tranfers. I am a single mother of one and ever since I have been living in my parent's house. According to our culture, women do not inherit land from their parents. The transfers, however, took care of this as I bought land using the first transfer. Upon getting the second transfer, I embarked on building my own house on that land. The house is now ready and I am going to move in really soon. The happiness that I have immeasurable as owning land and house is like a dream come true."

"My life is really different since I expanded by cereals business. Earlier on before receiving the transfer, I was a cereal broker. I did not have enough capital to start my own business. When the transfers came in, I channeled them towards starting my own cereals store. The business is really doing well and I am a happy and grateful woman thanks to GiveDirectly. The proceeds are also enough to meet my family's needs well and I even have extra to save through table banking."

Paul
received a $531 second payment.
"Due to inadequate rainfall in our region, so many seasonal rivers have dried up. This would force my wife to travel for long distance on a daily basis looking for water for domestic use. This prompted me to spare part of my transfers to buy a water tank. With this, he will be no longer wasting much time going to fetch water. During the rainy season, we will harvest enough water to take us to the next rainy season."

"Now since I receive these transfers from GD, I no longer go for casual jobs on a daily basis unlike before when I use to spent most of my time working on other peoples farms for pay. With GD money I have managed to buy food for my family which can sustain us for months till we harvest some maize which we planted."

Richard
received a $531 second payment.
"The difference I got after receiving the transfer is that I managed to pay school fees for my children in secondary school. Earlier on I could not pay their school fee on time which resulted in them being sent home for school fee quite frequently. This would result in them missing lessons and eventually dropping in their performance. I am glad GiveDirectly helped me solve this problem and now my children can stay in school without being sent home for fees until the term ends. Again, I channel some amount to my carpentry workshop which was almost collapsing. I have seen a great change since I bought more timber for making furniture for sale and now I got new tools which help me work efficiently."

"My life is different in that I have expanded my poultry project. This has led to an increased income from the sale of eggs and I no longer struggle to provide the basic needs for my family. I also have enough food for my family since I used part of my transfer to buy three bags of maize which will last us till the next harvesting season. I am glad since I was able to settle the hospital bill which has always been my worry using my transfers."

Chebet
received a $530 second payment.
"My life is different in that I have enough water for household and livestock use and I no longer walk for long distance to fetch water hence I can spend most of my time in my farm. The water is also clean and has reduced the risk of getting water borne diseases. I also have enough milk for my family since I used part of my transfers to buy a dairy cow. In the past , I have been buying milk and this was costly and I can now save the money that I could have used to buy milk and use to meet other family basic needs. I also sell the surplus milk to earn an income. Thank you Give Directly for the cash transfers."
