How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Now since I receive these transfers from GD, I no longer go for casual jobs on a daily basis unlike before when I use to spent most of my time working on other peoples farms for pay. With GD money I have managed to buy food for my family which can sustain us for months till we harvest some maize which we planted.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, GiveDirectly is doing so well by giving people unconditional money. With it, we have experienced a very big change as we no longer have children in our area being sent home for fees as parents paid school fees on time.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent my second transfer to plough a piece of land for farming and bought quality maize seedlings for planting. I also bought some maize for consumption since we had no food. I then spent part of it to pay school fees for my children who are in secondary school and college. The remaining amount I spend on buying furniture for my house.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
We greatly thank God for this support. Receiving this money means that we shall have (buy) another cow for our family for more milk production.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is at the afternoon when resting after the day's work. This restores my energy that I may handle the following day's activities.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest hardship we have faced in our family is unreliability and frequent absence of rains in our area (Chepalungu). Accordingly, we stuggle to fend for our family because we rely primarily on subsistence farming. We experience lots of losses due to regular droughts.
