Jumwa
received a $546 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now living in my new house which is also spacious through financial support from GiveDirectly. I could not renovate the old house because of the financial challenges that I was going through. However, with the transfer, I was able to achieve this and I am comfortable living in with my family. I am now glad that my children can now sleep at home."

Monica
received a $253 initial payment.
"After using most of my first transfer to clear the fee balance I had in my former high school and accessing my K.C.S.E certificate which was held, my next plan is going to college. I will use part of my next transfer to organise a fundraiser and the rest of it to buy some of the requirements, either personal or school-related."

Kiplangat
received a $527 second payment.
"I manage to plaster the floor of my house, my wife had had time sweeping the floor. I opted to plaster so that she can get to work less by just mopping the floor. Were it not for GD, it would have taken me some time before I save enough money for plastering. I thank Give Directly for helping me plaster my house. I finally managed to fulfil my promise to my wife who had a hard time to repair and cleaning the mud-walled house. She now has an easy time doing the cleaning, therefore, giving her ample time to engage in other meaningful activities. Were it not for GD, it would have taken me some time before realizing this dream. I had started saving though since I earn very little plastering this house was almost impossible."

Dama
received a $546 initial payment.
"Owning the pair of oxen is the biggest difference in my daily life because initially, I could spend a lot of money on hiring from neighbours during planting season. Getting my own pair will relieve me the expenses of hiring and instead I will hire to them at a fee thus getting an income. I am also assured of cultivating a bigger piece of land and this will increase my production thus my family will have enough food to last us for a longer period. I am grateful for the financial support."

Myssey
received a $365 second payment.
"The new goal for my life that I didn't have before receiving the transfer is to build a house back at home. Since I now believe that I will have started my business by June this year, I can comfortably start planning on how I will build a house for my family. I will be saving my daily income from the business so that I will use it in building a house. Building a house is my second priority because I will not be living in town anymore when I will have reached sixty years."

"I was woken up by a message notification on my phone early in the morning. On checking the message, I realized that it was from GiveDirectly informing me that I had received my first transfer. I was very happy for having received the transfers because they finally erased doubts. I started planning how I will spend the money and ensuring that I use every coin purposefully. I am very grateful because I never expected that I would one day get that much in my life."

Silas
received a $253 second payment.
"In the next six months, my expectation is to establish my own home. This will bring a big change in my life in that I shall be able to carry on some of the development projects within my compound. Currently, I live in my father's compound and he has been very rigid in terms of other projects I have been thinking are very viable. For instance, when I wanted to start a project of keeping pigs sometime back, he persuaded me to drop that project because he does not like pigs. Having my own home will give me an opportunity to focus on such projects and be able to make positive progress in life."

Kimutai

"In the next six months, I am optimistic that I will have established my poultry keeping project. This shall mean that I am more empowered financially and I can meet any financial challenges that may come my way. This shall as well mean that I shall have reduced reliance on assistance from my children and give them ample time to attend to their family's pressing needs."

"In the next six months, I will have improved in my farming activities. Among them, my income from sources will include milk production from the cow that I bought using last years' transfers. It will also include egg production. Additionally, the livestock that I will be keeping on my farm that has all been bought using the money I get from the transfer will have changed my financial situations for good."

"My life is different in that I sleep so well on a bed and mattress, soon I will be completing my an iron roofed house and this gives me happiness. Before, I used to sleep with a mat on floor, and it's difficult to find grass these days that can be used for roofing. "
