"My first priority upon getting this money is to buy a piece of land for farming since the one my family and I currently live in ain't enough to cultivate, hence the little money I earn from working as a casual labourer is mostly spent on buying food which we could have cultivated if only we had land for farming. I also plan to build a bigger iron roofed house since the one my family and i live in is smaller compared to the bigger size of the family."

"I am a tailor by occupation and the only one in the nearby shopping centre. Towards every school opening day I am overwhelmed by my community's demand for school uniform for their children. The constant hurdle that come with this job is having to shoulder people's debt who take uniform on credit due to their poverty and lack of money. This at often times make me run my business at a loss. This is the biggest hardship I've faced in my life but I believe this situation will change when we all receive money from GiveDirectly. "

"I expect my life to change in the next six months because I will have started my poultry farming. This will improve my life because I will be earning a better income. I know I will earn better because of the high demand my product is in our local market. This will also enable me to complete the hairdressing training that I started recently. Once I get a certificate I will be in a better position to employ myself by starting saloon business. With this I know my living standards will improve, I will rarely take loans. This will ensure that I have a steady growth both financially healthwise and emotionally"

"I do expect my life to change so much in the next six months because my projects will have picked and I will have started enjoying the profits. I have not yet thought of starting another project because I still want to concentrate on the ones that I recently started. Poultry and animals rearing. I am passionate about doing them and I enjoy doing all the duties in this job. I feel that I should give it my best that is why I do not what to start another thing that may interfere with it."

"In the next six months, I expect to have started a business hence will have a secondary and a better source of income which will change my life positively in that access to household needs and my children school fees will be easier. I expect to have either gathered building materials or to have already started to build a new, more decent house which will be my happiness and hope of better living standards of my family."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that, I will have expanded my poultry farm. I will have added approximately 1000 hens. This simply means my income will increase when I sell them to my customers after they have grown healthier and bigger. Currently, I supply fewer hens to schools and hotels because I didn't have enough money to expand the business. I want to be a reliable person so that I can even get more orders from other people too that and this is why the thought of expanding the farm was the best option for me."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in my life is lack of enough income to sustain the family's basic needs.I am a farmer and I get very little yield from the two acre farm that we own. This is mainly because of crop diseases which have been very persistent over the years.Sometimes we require to use herbicides to control them but we do not have money to do this. This translates to low income hence brings about the difficulty of satisfying the family needs;clothes, food and school fees being the heaviest burden."

"I expect to have started leasing out my piece of land since by then two of my children who are in school will have completed their secondary school education. What this means is that school fee payment issue will have been sorted and therefore the struggle will have reduced."

"In the next six months, I expect to have gotten enough money both from the products sold from my farms and also from the merry-go-round which we joined with my husband to purchase a good breed of cow. We are now focusing on this project as a priority after completion of the construction of the house which was a much pressing need for our household. Purchase of this cow to us will mean a lot as far as payment of my children's school fees in the future is a concern. We will be selling all the surplus milk and putting all the outcome in our savings plan towards school fees payment."

"Insufficient income to support my six children is my biggest hardship. Being a housewife, I depend on my husband for everything and this makes it difficult to sustain the family. Raising school fees is a big challenge and most of the time my children are sent back home. It is also not surprising for us to go without food for a number of days."
