Christine
received a $514 second payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I am now happy after getting financial support and bought the oxen. I believe and hope they will be of great help in ploughing my farm since the pair can take fewer days to plough an acre as compared to tilling myself. I believe I will get increased harvest products from the previous ones being that I prepared my farm in time unlike before when I used to do it myself. The oxen will also be helping in fetching water since the dams are very far from the village. Apart from that, I will also hire them to my neighbors at a fee and get an income to help me sustain my family needs without straining."

"In the next six months, I expect to diversify my farming and start poultry farming so that I can earn money through the sale of eggs. chicken needs a smaller space for rearing and little capital to start. Having this would enable me to earn more money to cater to my family needs and pay school fees for my children."

Reuben
received a $22 nineteenth payment.
"We have a persistent water problem in our village which forces us to walk several kilometers to the nearest water point. This is usually tiresome and hectic because we end up wasting a lot of time which could otherwise be used in other meaningful activities. Therefore, once I am done with building my house, I will ensure to I build a water tank. I know once we harvest enough water during the rainy season, it would sustain us up to the next rainy season. I will now have time to work on my farm and which may lead to improved farm produce."

"In the next six months, I have a lot of expectation as far as my life changes are a concern. With the poultry project which I am soon initiating, I have great hopes that my sources of finances would have increased in the next six months. I expect to be selling eggs then and also doing some expansion on the project to ensure that it accommodates a good number of chickens which in turn translate to better generation of income."

Mercy
received a $22 nineteenth payment.
"In the next six months, my life will have changed from how it is now. I will have built myself a house and my children and I will be sleeping comfortably without any disturbances. Also, I will have joined college to pursue my dream of gaining skills in beauty and hairdressing. When I finish studying, I will open a salon which I will be operating. This will enable me to be self-independent even when GiveDirectly will have stopped giving us the financial help after the years they promised us."

"I am going through several hardships ,one of them being the school fees burden. However the biggest hardship I have is a problem with my spine. In 2008 I was involved in a motorcycle accident which left me with serious injuries and the motorcycle rider dead. This accident left me with a spine problem which I often go for check up and treatment. This has been costly to me and moreso a worry to me.This has also limited my working ability since I cannot do very physical jobs."

"My biggest hardship is insufficient finances for my daily upkeep. Since am too old to work, I mostly engage in farming to get my daily bread. However, since last year, the rains have been disappointing and my crops do not mature. I now have to depend on my son who is in Mombasa doing casual jobs such as carrying luggage for travellers. His income is very low yet he also has his own family to take care of. I am sometimes forced to skip meals because there is not enough money to afford all three meals. "

"Considering that education is a key for a better life, my desire has been to invest fully in my three children's education. Receiving this money means quality education for my children and therefore, I will prioritize clearing their fee arrears. The remaining amount will support me to buy goats at least four for each child. This will serve as a long-term investment for their education and hence a better future."
