"In the next six months, I will have already bought a water tank. When this goal actualizes, I believe the harvested water will last me up to the next rainy season. This will save me from walking a long distance in search of water. I will use this time to do farming and other household chores."

"Currently, I rely on farming as the main source of income but whatever I get from it is spent on food for the family. I'm, therefore, planning to start a business. In the next six months, I will be saving the transfers from GiveDirectly and ensure that I have enough capital to help me start a meaningful business that will supplement what I am already getting from farm produce."

"Receiving this money means that i will be able to improve poultry farming by adding more chicken, building a more advanced poultry unit as well as fencing all around my compound with wire mesh in order to restrict the poultry from going to my neighbours' farms to destroy crops hence no more conflict with my neighbours. My second transfer will enable me to add one dairy cow for milking in order to boost the daily income i normally earn from selling 4litres of milk daily produced by my cow at ksh27 per day "

"Being widowed at a younger age is something I never imagined could happen to me and given that our society does not have a proper support system for people like us, it is always difficult to pick up the pieces and care for the family with much ease. Ever since I lost him, it has been a real struggle to sufficiently provide the family with basic necessities like food, education and healthcare and that is the biggest hardship am currently facing. Back then, everything was well and we could easily support each other in raising our children. To survive, I resorted to charcoal business, a venture that is so tiresome, with little returns. Again, it is not friendly to one's health and that has been my biggest worry. Receiving this money will enable me to cater for the needs of the family now that I intend to start up an income-generating activity. "

"Being a single mother, the biggest hardship I am facing is raising up my children alone.I am a casual labourer and what I get in a day is not enough to fully cater for my children's needs. As a casual labourer you are never assured of getting work to do.I depend on the availability of work on people's farms.Another challenge I face as a single mother is taking care of my children especially when I am out working. This has forced me to take my children to boarding school which is expensive for me.I have no one to take care of my children who are in primary school while I work for long hours."

"School fees has been a big burden for me.Receiving this money will therefore be a big relief for me since I will clear secondary school fees arrears for my two children. The arrears add up to Ksh 12,000.I have also not paid this terms fees. This money will help me clear. When my children will be in school my mind will be at peace to enable me continue with a little business. The remaining money will play a big part in boosting my timber business.I buy trees which I get timber from them then sell to those constructing houses or making furniture. The profit I get from this business will help me pay school fees in the coming years."

"It's one year now since I started a family and settling has taken a lot of time. Now that I am settled I need to expand my farming activities.Livestock farming seems a good venture for me.The money that I will receive will make me start off by buying one dairy cow which will cost me approximately Ksh 35,000.The milk will not only save me the cost of buying milk for consumption but also earn me some money through sale of the milk.I will also expand my poultry unit.I have only six chicken and my target is adding that number to 40.This means that I also have to do construction of the structures required."

"Imagine a community without access to clean and safe water for drinking. Most people in my community are dependent on open water pans to draw water for domestic purposes including livestock and household consumption. In a community with rampant behaviour of human open defecation, these water pans are contaminated and a safe haven for all manner of bacterial infections. Though I may have some stored rain water in my house at the moment, my biggest worry is an imminent drought season which may force me to draw the same contaminated water for household use and consumption. Though equipped with information about the danger lurking in these water pans, I live a life of fear knowing my family is not free and safe. "

"My expectation in the next six months is to expand my business. Since I live here, I know almost all the needs that my community have if not all. I am working hard to ensure that I bring all these items because its the only way that I will attract more customers. I wish I could get everything they need so that they will not lack anything that they want."
