How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Comparing my current life with my previous life before receiving the transfers, there has been a great difference. I am now living in a well-furnished house, sufficient foodstuff, and my children are dressing well. were it not for the transfers, all these would have been so hard to get.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, everything done by GiveDirectly in our village came out so well. We saw improved housing, a sufficient supply of foodstuff in most households and also establishment of new projects which in most cases were livestock farming and subsistence farming.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
On receiving the second transfer, we had to complete the already started projects which we had picked from the first transfer. In addition, we bought a chain link, hired labor which put up the fence. We also spent part of the money on buying foodstuff, chicken feed for the poultry project which we had started and also spent the remaining on Christmas shopping.

Describe the biggest difference in your daily life.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought a water tank. I used to walk for a long distance to fetch water for domestic use. This was taking much of my time which I could have used on my farm. I could also take my livestock to drink water from the river which was also very far, this was affecting the milk production because the livestock could get tired and spent the rest of the day resting. At times my children would help me fetch the water and I was so happy but this was only during the holidays. Currently, I have bought a five thousand liters water tank. I am so happy because I no longer have to walk for a long distance to look for water both for domestic used and for my livestock at times because I have enough stored in the tank. I have devoted much of my time on my daily chores at home. My children also do not have to walk for a long distance for water but rather spent their time to do school assignments. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard.
Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
The moment I received the money I felt so happy. I remember it was very in the morning when I was preparing for a job. When I checked my phone I could not believe my eyes. I found two messages confirming that I have received a sum of 55000 KES from GiveDirectly. I knew from that point that I was in a position to buy a water tank which has always been my dream to ease my work at home.
What did you spend your first transfer on?
I spent my first transfer to buy a water tank. I used to walk for a long distance to fetch clean water for drinking. I also paid workers who were doing some site construction to raise the tank and the rest of the money I used it to buy chicken marsh and food for the family.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Clean and safe water for drinking is a requisite for a life of dignity and healthy living. Receiving this money will enable me purchase a 5,000 litre capacity water tank for rain water harvesting. Access to clean water is a lifestyle I have desired for a long time. This is going to free me from the possibility of contracting water borne diseases rampant in my community. With the remaining amount of my first transfer I am planning to buy a chain link, fence my compound and concentrate on a poultry project I have already began.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am a coordinator in charge of ward ECD (Early Childhood Development) infrastructure under the county government of Bomet. Being a result oriented person, I draw happiness from completion of tasks at the end of the day. Accomplishments from the people I supervise makes me happy and proud of my job.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Imagine a community without access to clean and safe water for drinking. Most people in my community are dependent on open water pans to draw water for domestic purposes including livestock and household consumption. In a community with rampant behaviour of human open defecation, these water pans are contaminated and a safe haven for all manner of bacterial infections. Though I may have some stored rain water in my house at the moment, my biggest worry is an imminent drought season which may force me to draw the same contaminated water for household use and consumption. Though equipped with information about the danger lurking in these water pans, I live a life of fear knowing my family is not free and safe.
