"Living in a polygamous family set up as the second wife out of three has been my biggest hardship. This is because my husband offers no support to me when it comes to taking care of the family's needs. This began when he married the third wife in 2010.From then I do everything on my own beginning with taking care of the basic needs as well as education for my four children.I am a subsistence farmer and what I get from my farm is not enough to satisfy all their needs. My first born is in secondary school while the other three are in primary school. "I was woken up by a message alert on my phone and I was curious to know who could have sent a message to me. When I called my helper at daybreak to read the content of the message, I was filled with happiness that knew no bounds since GiveDirectly had sent us our first transfers. I celebrated with my family as I planned on how best I would spend my transfer to bring a positive impact on my life."

"My biggest hardship that I'm facing is lack of oxen for ploughing. We as a family hire the oxen from neighbours when it comes to farming. Having oxen of your own would make you cultivate early whenever rains start."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of money to do the things I would like to do. I want to build a house, buy a piece of land and do many things for my home but I don't have the capacity to do so since I don't have money. "

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is lack of oxen to support in farming. I dont have money that I would otherwise use to buy my own. For years, I do casual labour so as to raise money with which to pay the person who comes to work for me or I take some time to work for him in exchange of his service. This is a very hard thing to do and what really makes it hard is that I always cultivate late because I first have to wait until I can hire the service which at the end effects the yield of my crops hence food shortage. "Receiving this money means I will be able to buy five cows that will reproduce. I intend that they multiply so that I can be able to sell them off at a later stage and raise money that can buy a piece of land for my children Since I am a single parent. "

"Receiving this money means buying cows. When the cows multiply, I will be able to use part for marrying. When I marry, the wife will help me in proper planning and managing other household projects which will cause development at household level. In our culture, a man is expected to give an appreciation to the girl's family in form of bride price where exchange of animals is a requirement."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to build an iron roofed house. The one that I have is grass thatched and it leaks so much from one side since wind blew off part of the roof."

"The biggest hardship I face is sickness. My family members fall sick a lot and I spend too much money on treatment that would help in development. My family faces hunger due to low income savings."
