"My husband who is a casual labourer in Mombasa, is the sole provider for our family. Such jobs are unreliable and he can stay for almost 2 weeks without earning. This has put our family in a very difficult situation. The 2000 shillings that he sends monthly is not enough to cater for our needs. Sometimes it is even difficult to raise as little as 200 shillings when a child falls sick. I relate my suffering to financial instability which is my biggest hardship."

"I had the tailoring business long before GD came to work in our area. It was not doing well because I used a very small amount of money to start the business. I did not have good equipment and the stock for materials too was very low. In most cases, I would only look for loans to add more stock which was really hard to pay since the business was not giving much. The business was not bringing any profit until I started investing part of my transfers from GD. Right now, I have my own materials and in as much as I do not have quality equipment, I have what I need for the business. All these were made possible because of GD transfers."

"I spent my transfer as fare when I went visiting at my home. I also bought a heifer as an investment for my family. This would be my saving for the money because when it reproduces I will have a number which I can be able to sell to raise money for paying school fees arrears for my children. The rest of the transfer I used on boosting my cloth business by adding more stock. Right now the business is now doing well because of the transfers. The remaining part of the transfer I used on buying food so that we may not run out of what to eat in the house."

"I spent my transfer on savings in my bank account. My firstborn son will be joining primary school next year and I will need money to cater for his admission fees plus buying his school requirements. I have saved the money to help me through that come next year. The rest of the transfer I used on boosting my retail shop business. The business has not been doing well yet it is my only source of income. It will be the income from the business which will sustain my needs and even help me raise money to pay school fees for my children."

"I will have a big change because for one I will not be hiring cows and casual laborers to the cultivation at a cost, instead my husband will take care of that job. This, therefore, means that the money I would have spent on the hiring process will be diverted to a more useful channel within the house such as paying school fees for the kids."
