"Two of my children are in secondary school. I sold all my livestock to take them through school. Receiving this money is a new beginning because I am planning to buy a dairy cow to provide my family with milk for consumption and sale of surplus. A good dairy cow will cost me around $400. I will use the remaining $150 of my first transfer to buy building materials for my sons' house."

"Lack of adequate finance to meet my desire providing for education for my children has been my biggest hardship I have faced in my life. I am jobless and I rely on my husband who is a water vendor. This job is temporary and it earns his 2 dollars on a lucky day. His income can not fully cater for the educational need of my family hence my children are always at home due to the huge fee balances. This has compelled me to live a miserable life because I feel I am not performing my duty as a parent."

"What a good feeling to have after building a decent shelter for my mother with GiveDirectly. Its breath taking to see her no longer staying at her brother - in - law old shanty that was deserted when she was rendered homeless since her house had collapsed. Secondly, I have been able to settle all my son's school fees. This has brought an additional peace of mind. Before, I have done several fund raisers to raise money to pay his school fees and even sold a fair share of my properties for his education. Thanks you GiveDirectly for bettering our life which wouldn't have been the case without the financial support."

"Being a housewife I depend on my husband who is a casual labor building houses. The income from his job is 3.5 dollars per day. With my 2 children in secondary school the income is mostly used to facilitate their educational need. He left with no coin for other needs like proper shelter for the family. Therefore, lack of adequate financial resources to meet the need of good shelter is my biggest hardship."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received these transfers in that, I purchased a solar lamp for lighting purposes in my household. Due to this, my children nowadays do their revision in the evening without any problems and disturbance. Secondly, paying school fees for my children and have them in their various schools is very delightful for me to see them prosper in their education which shall allow them to have a better life in the future. Thanks you GiveDirectly."

received a $518 second payment.
"My life is improved from how it had been because I received the money and connected my home to running water. This water has the potential to supply an irrigated garden that I will be producing vegetables for sale and also for use at home. Its tremendous benefits were evident during the recent drought where for the first time, I did not take the cows to a community water pond in another village like we had been doing years on end. As a result, my cows maintained the production level of milk unlike how it used to get low due to the tress of long-distances and the water stress they could go through. I am already reaping the benefits through unaffected milk production and a possible establishment of an irrigated vegetable garden."

"My life is currently different after managing to own a dairy cow with the help of the transfer. I have been selling surplus milk and using the remaining liters for household consumption which has enabled us to cut the cost of buying milk. I am also proud to have managed to offset school fees balance for my child with ease."

Paul
received a $517 second payment.
"My life has improved after reducing the burden of paying part of the school fees for my daughter. I am also glad that I built a house too. The fact that I haven't had to sell land to educate my child is the best gift that I received from GiveDirectly. As a parent, I would have accepted to stay at home with my child and the only option would have been to sell apart of my land. This would have devastated me and my family who have only this small piece of land to call home. I am now utilizing the farm while my child is peaceful at school a the same time, unlike when I had all the fears of having to lose one in order to have the other."

"My life improved greatly after I bought a dairy cow using GiveDirectly's transfer. In addition to being a source of income, It has made me occupied tending to it most of the day. I no longer idle around in the village like I used to. As we speak, I am looking after them. I feel proud of seeing them grazing in the field. It is now an occupation that brings a lot of fulfillment to my family at large through the income that I get from selling milk."
