How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My life has improved after reducing the burden of paying part of the school fees for my daughter. I am also glad that I built a house too. The fact that I haven't had to sell land to educate my child is the best gift that I received from GiveDirectly. As a parent, I would have accepted to stay at home with my child and the only option would have been to sell apart of my land. This would have devastated me and my family who have only this small piece of land to call home. I am now utilizing the farm while my child is peaceful at school a the same time, unlike when I had all the fears of having to lose one in order to have the other.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
In my opinion, the work that GiveDirectly did in our village was splendid. They came all the way to our households. We were not told to travel to different places in order to meet them. If that could have happened, I am sure that it have could have hindered some of us from getting the transfer. Most of us and especially the old the sick and those with disabilities would l never have been part of the transfer.
What did you spend your second transfer on?
I spent part of my second transfer on buying a cow. For a long time, I had the desire to own a cow purposefully to get milk. With this, I knew that I would get milk for household consumption and sell the surplus in order to earn a living. Additionally paying school fees for my daughter was on my plan. She is currently in school and has never been sent home due to fee arrears. The remaining amount was spent on buying food that sustained us for quite some time.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
I am very happy to be among those who will be receiving these cash transfers. I had plans but capital was the major issue and now I have it, can't wait to get started. Long live GD.
What is the happiest part of your day?
The happiest part of my day is in the morning when I wake up feeling fine, energized and ready to partake on the hustle of the day.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
All of my kids dropped out of school due to my inability to pay for their school fees. Now, about all of them are struggling in life as we speak-some of them are jobless. This has made me feel as if I have failed as a parent and this feeling is really tormenting me every now and then. For me this is the biggest hardship I've ever experienced in my life.
