Cherono
received a $519 second payment.
"Comparing my current life with my previous life before receiving the transfers, there has been a great difference. I am now living in a well-furnished house, sufficient foodstuff, and my children are dressing well. were it not for the transfers, all these would have been so hard to get."

Shadrack
received a $519 second payment.
"A larger portion of my transfer went to buying livestock. I now have sheep and cows which I am keeping. Had it not have been this money, I would not have purchased any at my own cost. These are assets to me that I can readily lean on in case of a financial problem. I am expecting them to reproduce and have many of them. The income from milk sales will enable me to pay for my children's education."

Esther
received a $519 second payment.
"I decided to build a spacious house for my family using the transfer. This is because we had been living in a small house that could not accommodate us comfortably and we also lacked privacy. I wanted to do this but for a long time but had not been successful due to the lack of money. Although my spouse succumbed to his sickness, I am glad that I was able to give him a decent burial and clear the hospital bill without organizing for an harambee."

Bibian
received a $519 second payment.
"My life is currently different in that I now have a bigger house than I had before receiving this transfer. We were living in a very small iron roofed house that made it quite difficult for us to live comfortably throughout and was even worse whenever we had visitors at home. It brought a very awkward moment or situation to us to an extent that we felt they should go back to their places soon enough and avoid further embarrassments. I now have enough courage and self esteem to welcome visitors at my home and life has just been so good to us."

Kajiwe
received a $519 second payment.
"My life is currently different because I now have a new pair of oxen that will be helping me in doing my farming timely for better harvests. I also built a new decent and iron roofed house. My previous house was grass thatched and in a bad state. I am happy that I moved into my new house, which I wouldn't have built if I was to use my own resources."

Amina
received a $519 second payment.
"My life is now different because I now have goats that I am keeping. I didn't have any livestock before GiveDirectly came to us. I am expecting them to reproduce and exchange them for cows. I was also facing financial hardships that even providing for my family was a challenge. We could at times stay without food. However, I was able to fulfill my family's basic needs such as buying daily foodstuffs without much struggle when I received my transfer."

Mwenda
received a $519 second payment.
"Had it not been the coming of GiveDirectly, then I wouldn't be owning any livestock. I am no longer hiring when it comes to prepare and ploughing my farm during the planting season. I used to hire from neighbours but currently I am using my own pair of oxen. It has helped me in doing my farming timely for better harvests. My children were a always sent home from school since I couldn't pay for them on time. Their studies are no longer interrupted now having cleared for them through this money."

"I didn't have any livestock in my compound. However, I now own a pair of oxen and a heifer. Had it not been GiveDirectly, then I would not be owning these livestock. These are living assets which I know will help me in meeting my future financial goals."
