"Subsistence farming has been my source of food but considering my age, I am more challenged during land preparation since I use traditional methods like the use of a hoe. I have desired to own oxen and ox plough but because of financial predicament, this has never come to reality. My plan once I receive this money is to spend 380 dollars to sort out this, and I will be sure of food security for my family since tilling my farm will be easy and on time. On the other hand, I intend to use 150 dollars to repair my house which is on one side is just braving the strong winds of our area. Having done this, my life will have a new version, a change that I have wished for a long time."

"As a housewife, I depend most on my husband who is working as a casual laborer at Mombasa. His income is always low and his support has never been consistent. This has forced us to skip meals on some days or to borrow from my relatives something that does not give me peace of mind due to the shame I usually feel. Therefore, the lack of a stable source of income has been the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life."

"Besides subsistence farming, we depend on casual jobs for a living. These jobs are hard to get and it can take up to 4 months before landing another job. Imagine earning 500 shillings in 4 months! It is not surprising for us to eat ugali with salt especially during dry season when there are no vegetables from the farm. This situation makes financial instability my biggest hardship."

"Receiving this money means alot to my life and that of my family. As a young family, it will help me build my financial status. I will invest it in my already small business of selling fish among other things. This cash will also be used in purchasing furniture for my house and ofcourse not forgetting beddings."
