"I have a kid who is still schooling in tertiary level. She has been depending on higher loans board to lend her some money for school fees. The money is hardly enough to cover for her school fees, accomodation and personal use. With no regular source of income from my side, I intend to use part of this money to offset her school fees since she is in the final academic year. I also intend to start poultry farming with 40 chicken for a start and construct a poultry unit. With these chicken, I will be earning a regular income from the sale of their products."

"Before GiveDirectly visited me, I was staying in a small ,shanty and poorly constructed house. I had no plans of building a decent house since I have been struggling financially for many years. However, upon receiving the transfer, I decided to buy enough building materials which include iron sheets and building poles in order to construct a decent house. This to me makes it to be the biggest difference because in my daily life. I had tried to build at my own cost but I failed due to lack of financial resources. I am grateful to GiveDirectly for helping me achieve this dream."

"I have a family of six; my husband and four kids. Two of my kids live with their grand mother while the other two are staying with me. My husband is a regular alcoholic who spends most of his time in liquor places. He does not play the role of the house head anymore since he does not fend for us and as a result I am left as the sole provider. Additionally, I have been a victim of domestic violence instigated by him. I have once been hospitalized because of the beatings I received from him. After the incident, the local authorities tried to apprehend him but was notified by his friend(s) and decided to escape. Its been 5 months since he disappeared but thank God I live in peace with my kids. This for me has been the biggest hardship that I have ever experienced."

"I am getting old and can no longer performed some duties in my house. An example of this is smearing my two roomed-mud walled house. I have always wished to have money so that I could rebuild the walls with sand. I think this is the best time to do this, I have estimated the cost to around 30,000 shillings. I also intend to buy a dairy cow so that whenever the one I have does not produce milk,I do not incur extra cost buying milk from my neighbours."

"The biggest hardship we have faced in life is the continued inadequacy of food in our household. Specifically, we always struggle to get some food because that is one of the most pressing and unavoidable concern in our family. As such, we have made no significant developments since we use all our income on meeting such basic needs. As a subsistence farmer, we are experiencing poor yields from our farms due to climate change."

"The biggest hardship I have faced in life is the extreme weather conditions that adversely impact my farming activities. As a widow, I rely solely on subsistence farming to sustain my family. Precisely, the poor yields that we usually attain from our farm could barely sustain us."

"Receiving this money means that I shall be relieved of the tiresome task of fetching freshwater from a spring that is situated almost 3 kilometers from home. I have been doing this daily since 1991 when I got married. Currently, I am feeling tired and aged. So, I will purchase a large water tank for storing rainwater. I could have bought a water tank before, but life has been tough since I am a widow without any reliable source of income."
