Annah
received a $494 second payment.
"Receiving this money attracted lots of happiness to me and my family. This is because we have managed to meet some of the pressing issues we have been facing. Having a new kitchen, paying school fees for my child, wearing new and decent attire as well as eating well are some of the key elements that have brighten our lives."

Winny
received a $494 second payment.
"I spent all the second transfer (53, 000 shillings) on expanding my business - I am running a motorcycle spare parts store. I prioritized acquiring more stock since I was not enjoying any reasonable profit from the initially low stock I had."

Julius
received a $494 second payment.
"My life is different than how it would have been had I never received the transfer. Before receiving the transfers, I owned an heifer. This is a different case now as I am a proud owner of a dairy cow, some goats and chicken in addition to the heifer. These are assets that I can easily depend on in case of an emergency. Also, owning these assets has enabled me to no longer overwork myself as my daily expenditure has reduced since I do not buy milk anymore like before."

Chepkoech
received a $494 second payment.
"I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly to buy a dairy cow at a costof 28000 Ksh.I used to buy milk and it was so costly for me. This is because I depend on small scale farming to earn an income. I also used part of the money to pay school for my three children in secondary school. My children used to be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting their performance. So the second priority was to pay all their school fees for the whole term. The rest of the money I used it to cultivate my farm and bought the seeds and fertilizers. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

Rehema
received a $512 initial payment.
"My house accidentally got burned recently. I was not able recover anything including cloths and beddings, this forced me to be sheltered by my neighbours. After receiving the transfer, house construction was a priority. I spent $ 450 to purchase 41 iron sheets, building poles for the construction of 2 house, one for myself and another for my big boys. Also, I used the remaining amount to buy clothes for every member in my family."

Nelly
received a $512 initial payment.
"After receiving our first transfer, I spent a bigger part on livestock. I obtained four Dorper sheep, and three goats which saw us part with 37000 KES, and also purchased layer chickens with the other 12000 KES. With the remaining amount, all my 7 children needed at least a pair of new outfits each, and we had to visit the nearest market where we could find some at a cheaper cost. We also added the foodstuff and installed a solar lighting system with the small remaining amount at a hire purchase. It has been a busy period in our household ensuring that we account for every coin we received. We appreciate that we made to bring in livestock which immediately cut the cost of milk which we used to buy and also the eggs collected from the already mature chickens have been sorting most of the household bills and we are looking forward to starting a savings plan as we are soon paying school fees for my children."
