"I purchased furniture and beddings worth 10, 000 shillings using my second transfer. We had no decent seats ad beddings since we could not afford them. We have been sleeping on rags with no bed. I used the remainder on buying more food stock since our crops have not been doing well of late. Precisely, I have been struggling to bring up my five children since my husband abandoned us some years back."

"I used all the second transfer (53, 000 shillings) on building a house for my sons. They used to go and sleep with my neighbor's children since they had no room in our compound. That could expose them to some safety risks and adversely affect their study time as they walk in the evening."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a water tank. Our area is a semi desert and most of the time their is no water. The distance from home to the river is so long and one could take more than two hours to get to the river. I used to wake up very early in the morning to be able to get clean water. At some point there was long queue and we could spend almost the whole day waiting. This was so tiresome and time consuming. Carrying twenty litres of water everyday was so hectic. I could get home feeling so tired and I could not be able to do other chores. I had so many activities at home to conduct, getting my child ready for school, cultivating my farm, I also own a small business which I had to open on time. All this needed my attention. Currently I have a water tank and I no longer walk for that long distance like before. I prepare my child to school so early, do my chores and last open my business on time. I get good profits nowadays because I meet the demand of my customers. I also do not stress up on where to get the water. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has enabled me to save time and do my daily routine without being disturbed."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have been in a position to pay school fees for my children in various schools. I spend 30000ksh for school fees on the second transfer. I do run a small shop and a posho mill at home. The amount of profit that I get from this business was so small and I could not meet all the household needs and pay school fees for my children on time. My children could be sent home to collect the school fees and this was affecting their performance since lessons were on going. I could hardly break-even in my business before because I could use all the profits and part of the capital on school fees. I was not able to meet all the demand of my customers on time. I ask added 20000ksh to to stock up my business. Currently I meet all the demands of my customers .My children are no longer sent home to collect the school fees and this has led made them improve their performance. I am also so happy since I no longer get stress up on where to get the money. I have devoted much of my time on my business. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I managed to clear the school fees arrears fr my grandchildren. This has been my dream of seeing them going to school and getting good education like the rest but this was not achievable becasue of poverty life. I never had a chance to go to school neither my children and whatever we have been going through in life is a result of our illiteracy. Therefore this matter has been stressing me for so many years especially if one of them drops out of school becasue of the fee balances. I will forever be grateful to God for making me bringing GiveDirectly into my village and had a chance to be among the beneficiaries. This becasue the future of my grandchildren is promising together with their generation courtesy of the organization."

"I spent part of my first transfer on buying livestock which includes some goats and sheep. I have been dreaming to keep them in my compound but I could not afford them becasue they were too more expensive. I later bought building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, timber, and nails. This was for the construction of a new house because the initial one was not spacious. In addition to that, I settled the huge school fees balances for my children who are still in primary schools. With the remaining amount of money, I bought sufficient foodstuffs for the family."
