"Receiving this money means stock expansion to my business. I am a businesswoman who has been operating a kiosk shop worth 20,000 Kenya shillings. I have desired to run a shop with large stock worth at least 60,000 Kshs but due to financial challenges, this dream has never been fulfilled. I am planning to spend 40,000 shillings on the top-up. This is going to generate more income for my family. In a day I can make at least 400 Kshs as proceeds which is enough to sustain all our needs such as school fees. Also, I will use the remaining amount to clear school fees for my children."

"Lack of a good source of income is my biggest challenge. I work as a part-time taxi driver but it is not guaranteed because I depend on other people's taxis. In a day I make 200 Kenya shillings which are not enough to sustain all my needs such as food."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have bought building materials ready to build a better house. We live in a small grass thatched house which is leaking from inside. My children are exposed to cold during the rainy season. I was so worried because I didn't know what to do. I depend on small scale farming and the harvest that we get is only for consumption. I didn't had a continuous source of income. I also didn't had any savings to enable me buy the iron sheets. When I received the transfer I bought all the materials needed to build a better house. I am yet to start soon, I will relocate immediately to the new house when it's done. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard to be much better than before. It has given us hope to continue achieving our dreams."

"In my opinion GiveDirectly does well by giving money to the poor in the community to build better houses. I do not find anything that GiveDirectly did not do well."

"I spent part of the money I received from GiveDirectly on purchasing five goats. This is an investment which I had always wished to start. I also paid school fees for my children in primary school. The rest of the money I bought clothes and food for the family. I am so happy because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"My ambition is to be a poultry farmer. I am a teacher by profession but being employed under the TSC has been an issue since I only have a diploma and not a degree. My husband works as a police officer, his salary is around $290 and it is not enough for us to provide education for our 2 children let a line establishing a business for the household.
As a family we had saved some capital and build a chicken house but their is no capital to buy the chicken, so $600 of our transfer will be used to purchase 200 chicken and $400 for the chicken feed and and treatment needed. I believe this will liquidate and bring in a good amount of income to help sustain the our basic needs such as education, food and clothing."

received a $492 second payment.
"When I received my transfer, I spent KES 25000 to build a spacious kitchen for my family. We settled on this as a family since we used to share a kitchen with my mother and my spouse always felt uncomfortable. Also, I spent around KES 18000 to fence my compound. I decided on this so that my poultry will not be going to the farm to destroy my crops. Also I bought two goats for rearing at KES 8000 and used the remaining amount on food."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by giving people financial help and by educating people first before sending the money and I do not see anything that they do not do well."
