"I spent part of my second transfer on buying five goats at KES 3200 each. These have been the well thoughtful assets that I had been yearning to keep but I couldn't afford them because of financial difficulties. I also bought building materials such as iron sheets, building poles, threads, nails, and timber. This was for the construction of a new house becsue the previous one was in a previosu one that had collapsed, and I have to sleep at my mother-in-law's house. I had a dream of owning one for a long time, but I could not afford to purchase the materials needed. I also cleared some medical bills for my children who are disabled, one is deaf, and the other one paralyzed. With the remaining amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

"In my opinion, GiveDirectly does well by making sure they visit all the needy households in my region. No one was left out in the enrolment process provided they were among the residents of the given area. They also never considered, gender, tribe, or even tribe. Therefore I do not see any part that GiveDirectly failed us."

"I spent part of my second transfer on buying a big solar panel which is now providing us with light at night and charging our phones. I also cleared school fees for my four children who are still in primary. In addition, I bought some new school uniforms for them becasue the previous ones were not in good condition. Also, I bought a new mattress KES 4300 to replace the old one which I was not comfortable with and I could always encounter back pains. With the reming amount of money, I bought enough foodstuffs for my family."

"My life is different than how t would have been because currently, I have two dairy cows in my homestead. Previously, I never have any assets in my compound that I could mention simply because they were very expensive and considering my low wages, I couldn't afford to buy them. Through the dairy cows, I am now getting plenty of milk for free whereby a few litres are for my family consumption and the remaning litres are for commercial purposes. In a day I normally sell like 5 to 6 litres at KES 50 each litre. This has really improved my living standard and I no longer strain in meeting the family's needs like before. Also, I am now sleeping in a better house with all m family members which has been my dream. We have been sheltering under a very small house which so stressful. This is now a history courtesy of GiveDirectly"

"Receiving this money means improved health. I was diagnosed with kidney problems seven years ago. Ever since then, my life has been miserable characterized by frequent trips to the hospital to seek some medical attention. I have been to several hospitals without any hope of recovering from this prolonged illness. Immediately I receive the transfer from GiveDirectly, I will go and see a specialist who can cure the illness. Food has also been a challenge to my family. I'm planning to use the balance to buy one pair of ox-plough for the purpose of tilling a larger piece of land aiming at improved food productivity. I have relied on a small piece of land for long. I'll use my ox-plough to till 3 acres of land every season and this assures me 9 bags of maize every season, enough to sustain my family."

"The lack of a stable source of income is the biggest hardship that I have ever faced in my life. Being a housewife yet the income from my husband is inconsistent, I have gone through a lot of stress seeing him struggling to put food on the table. Sometimes this gives me the feeling of being an irresponsible spouse something that pisses me off. I am now a happy person after knowing that, soon, my husband will have a stable source of income and I will also be busy at home looking after my goats."
