"The biggest hardship I face is food security. I work as a casual labourer doing odd jobs from farm work to working in schools as a volunteer. Each month I barely put food on the table because the income I get amounts to KES 4,000. I can't sustain my family's needs such as buying food, better shelter or paying school fees."

"Receiving this money will enable me to buy a dairy cow worth KSH 30,000. I have been spending KSH 120 daily buying milk for my household consumption after selling the cow I had 8 months ago to clear school fee arrears for my children. The cow will not only help me build up savings from the amount I usually spend in purchasing milk, but it will also be my assured daily income from selling milk. I will then spend KSH 20000 to buy new household furniture. I usually feel ashamed whenever my visitors come around since I do not have enough chairs in the house, which forces me to go borrow some from my neighbours, thus this money will restore my dignity."

"The biggest hardship in my life has been when I got sick six years ago. I was diagnosed with intestinal problems which saw me admitted and went through an operation. My family used more KES 150000 to pay hospital bills. This was such a blow for us. Since then we are still trying to recover financially. With this money, I hope it will be a starting point for me so that I can recover what I lost in the process."

"Receiving this money will mean a lot to me and my family. We have a son who is in secondary school and is nearly completing school. We have plans with my wife to construct a house where he can stay and sleep comfortably because right now, he sleeps with his friends. We are hopeful that when we get this money, we will use KES 40,000 dollars to construct the house. We will use KES 30,000 to buy a dairy cow for milk because this area does poorly in terms of crop growing."

"Food insecurity has been the biggest hardship we have faced in life. Over the past 10 years, we have been unable to harvest sufficient maize due to unknown diseases. Initially, we used to plant approximately 2 acres of land harvesting about 14 bags of maize. Unlike today, we only plant one acre of it harvesting utmost 2 bags yet we rely on maize for food. This amount is unsustainable to cater to a family of five for a year. Food insecurity has been our biggest worry as a family."
