"The transfers from GiveDirectly have been very beneficial to my family. For the past year, I have been spending my transfers on food and supporting my children's education. In addition, I had initiated building a new house with part of the transfer. So I need three iron sheets to complete it. My primary goal is to prioritize completing building that house. That will help me to live in a better house unlike the previous one whose roofing was too old. In addition, because we are facing a serious famine, my other goal for this year is to continue using part of the transfer to help obtain food for my family of eight members since I only do charcoal selling business which is of low earning. I am grateful for the financial support from GiveDirectly."

"I've been setting aside $10 from each transfer for the past year. I want to open a store that sells food in the coming year. The residents of our village must travel long distances to buy food because there are few stores. I intend to launch the business that will enable me to earn a respectable amount of income to provide for my family by taking out a loan that is three times the amount of savings I have. Ever since I lost my job in home construction, life has been difficult. My low income and tedious temporary job selling charcoal prevent me from providing for all of my family's needs. Starting this business will help me improve my life."

"I am convinced that education will improve my children's lives and help them escape the poverty I am currently experiencing. I struggle to provide for all of my five children's educational needs because of low paying job as a motorcycle taxi, or "bodaboda." My new objective for the coming months is to use the funds from my subsequent transfers to pay my kids' tuition. They won't be expelled for having unpaid school fees as a result, allowing them to concentrate on their education."

"This year, my four-year-old daughter Nuru will begin school. She is my firstborn, and I want to give her everything. I'm a single mom who currently resides with my mother. My source of income is tailoring, but because of the chest issues I have, I am unable to work at it throughout the day, and as a result, I do not earn much money from it. I plan to start raising chickens and goats in order to supplement our household income and pay for school fees. They are quick to breed, can survive the drought we are experiencing, and are simple to manage. In the future, I intend to sell some of them to generate cash for our expenses"

"My first priority has always been figuring out how to build a new, better house. The existing one is in poor shape; more of the wall and the roof have collapsed. My spouse and I are both elderly, therefore we were unable to accomplish anything to raise money for a new room's construction. When we call the children who have moved to the town for the purpose of financial support, they always say they have no income. We therefore relied on burning charcoal for sale, but as we get older, we can no longer handle the demanding task. I told my wife to cease burning charcoal the moment we started getting the transfers, and we now only enjoy the monthly stipend. Since then, we have been utilizing part of the money to buy food and part to buy building supplies. We have so far raised ten iron sheet pieces, but we still need eighteen more to raise the necessary number. As long as we get all the monthly transfers, we aim to have a dream house by the end of the year"

"For the last one year, I have been supplying milk in the school that my children are in to reduce school debt, we used to supply about 20 litres of milk to school every day and in return, the school debt is reduced. Now that I have cleared the debt, I will be using the money from the milk we sell to buy a piece of land to start venturing into food farming or chicken farming. By the end of another year, I hope to have made enough money and finally buy the land we want."
