Katembe
received a $28 ninth payment.
"Due to the persistent drought nutrition has been quite a recurring challenge. Therefore, I intend to ensure that me and my family do not have to worry about matters concerned with nourishment. I also plan on buying myself a couple of new clothes because the ones that I have are mostly torn and in tatters. Apart from that I also plan on buying myself another goat so that after it reproduces it can always help me when I am struggling financially."

Garama
received a $28 ninth payment.
"My tiny house, which was home to my wife and six children, collapsed last week. All of the members of my family were accommodated by my mother. I'm currently sleeping in an improvised goat skin and polythene shelter. My current financial situation is poor because I make a pitiful living selling building poles. Every penny I make goes toward feeding the family and covering the children' tuition. I've done my best to save, but every time I do, a financial emergency forces me to spend what I've saved. My top priority for this year is to use a significant amount of my transfers to construct a sizable, luxurious home for my family. The financial boost will be extremely beneficial."

Victoria
received a second payment.
"As per my community customs and culture, my husband was supposed to pay dowry to my parents but since he was not financially stable, he was not able to deliver everything that he was required to. When we received our second transfer, we saw this as a perfect opportunity for him to buy the two cows for dowry that he was requested because previously, he was not able to afford to raise money to buy them from the casual jobs that he does. We spend $400 to buy two cows, $80 to pays school fees and the balance to buy food for my family. We are so happy that we are finally done with the dowry payment and can now focus on other family projects."

"What GiveDirectly does well is giving us unconditional financial aid that has lifted us in several ways. If it were not for the money, I would not have managed to build a house and I do not take that for granted. The transformation in the village is very visible and we are so grateful for everything. Thank you so much."

Kenneth
received a $433 second payment.
"Living in a single room with my wife and two children is not something that we enjoyed. We yearned for our privacy and a bigger shared but due to financial constrains we were not able build a bigger house as both my wife and I are peasant farmers. We also used a small solar lamp which did not offer us sufficient light in the house. When I was being enrolled in the program, building a better house and connecting it to electricity was one of my major goals and thankfully, I was able to achieve that with my second transfers. I was able to another room for my kids and I could not be more happier that everyone in the house have their own privacy noe and we enjoy electricity shinning up on our heads."

"What GiveDirectly does well is giving us unconditional lump sum transfers which has made so many people in the society financially independent. This transforms to dignity among the members of the society and we are so grateful for that."

Winny
received a $433 second payment.
"Both my husband and I are peasant farmers and due to the prolonged drought that happed last year, life was not easy as we did not have another reliable source of income. This is the time we wished that we had a dairy cow because it would have helped us big time with selling milk. Since we were not financially capable of buying one previously, we thought spending part of the transfer to buy a dairy cow was a great idea. I spend $350 to buy a cow, $60 to pay my school fees balance, $50 to buy clothes for my baby and the balance to buy food. As family, we are hopeful that the cow will have given birth in two years time and we will be able to sell milk and earn some income and also cut on cost of buying milk for the baby and the family consumption in general."
