"Currently I and my family are facing two challenges, thus, hunger and poor housing. As I am speaking to you I am just coming from some piecework at Semani all in the quest of trying to find food for my family. I rely on casual labour to provide food for my family since I don't get much from subsistence farming. For instance, I only got 5 bags of maize from my previous harvest which only lasted until June this year. Furthermore, my housing condition is not ideal, as you can see this house is too small to offer the 5 of us the comfort, privacy and accommodation we need. Lack of financial muscle to elect a new and bigger house hinders me from building a new house."

"The only challenge I am facing currently is hunger. By this I mean I don't have sufficient food to provide for my family of 6. Due to erratic rains last season I only managed to get 4 bags of maize for food from my 1 acre farm land and we finished this in August this year. Since then I have had to rely on pieceworks and buying food and this has been exhausting."

"The challenge in my household is food. This is because we don't have a stable source of income. We rely on casual work to make ends meet but sometimes there's no work and we stay hungry. Without food we are unable be productive and that just worsens the pressure."

"Scarcity of food. We didn't harvest anything last season and our charcoal selling business isn't as beneficial as it used to be. People nowadays don't have money so it's a challenge to have them buy from us. The other challenge we are facing is lack of clothes. Due to our limited finances we are unable to afford new clothes which we wish we had as a family."

"In my household the only challenges I am facing are lack of food and housing. From my previous harvest, in May this year,I only got 10 bags of maize which low in the sense that on a good year I get about 25 bags from my 3 acre farm land. This has brought about a hunger crisis in my family considering that there's 6 of us and this is not sufficient to sustain us all with respect to our feeding pattern. When it comes to housing, this one I am currently staying in leaks whenever it rains and this brings about discomfort especially at night. Additionally, being a grass thatched house, I am constantly worried it might easily catch fire and get burnt."

"My biggest problem is food. I don't have food in my house because of money. I rely on washing at people's houses, farm work or and labour work anyone needs help with. From that money I buy food and that is hardly ever enough because I get paid enough. My husband works in a grain mill as part time and that's how he earns money for us. Still, not enough that's why we have no food in the house."

"The biggest problem we're facing is lack of money and food. We had low yields last season due to the rains and that left us food insecure which means whatever money we make goes straight to food and nothing else. We do casual work to make ends meet but that still isn't enough for our daily needs."

"The challenge I am currently facing is food. We often stay hungry with no food. We have to do work and get paid to have food in the house. Living hand to mouth is hectic because you can't plan far ahead. We are old and get sick here and their and that limits our labour output."

"The challenge in my household is food. This is because we don't have money to buy food with. We do casual work to find money for food but that has it's time. It's seasonal. At least now it's land preparation time for farming so work is there out there. But there's many of us wanting work so if you're late then you so won't get it and have no food at home. My house is not in shape and if love to renovate it and have iron sheets. I also want livestock so that when I lack something, i can sell it and provide."

"At the moment I am going struggling good health and lack of food. I think it could be because we don't eat balanced diets. It could be a deficiency of something. We don't have food because what we harvest is not enough even though we put in the hardwork but the climate is not conducive. My family is also big that what we harvest only lasts a few months and doesn't run the whole year. We had 4 bags ad had to save seed from the same and eat the rest. It's not enough."
