"The cash transfer to every household in our village was of great help in that we managed to invest a lot in the construction, livestock, and subsistence farming that we had been struggling with a lot. The freedom to spend on our choices enabled every individual to address the pain points in their households and ensure that they come to the same level as any other village member. No one complained then and even at the moment, we are still thankful for the generous support that was well executed by GiveDirectly."

Kadzo
received a $431 second payment.
"The construction of our two-bedroom house that we had started after receiving the first transfer had stalled due to some financial crisis. Receiving this second transfer was a boost on the construction work as we spent $300 on obtaining paints, several bags of cement, and settling the labor charges to have it completed. I do tailoring at home and my husband is a motorcycle rider. Every week he pays $27 to settle a loan he took to acquire the motorcycle. We are thus left with not so much to cater to the basic needs of the family. I was able to replace the old, ripped mattress and bed with new ones costing $120 and we no longer wake up with bodily aches. I also cleared school fees arrears for my three children which had accumulated to $40. With the remaining $70, I replenished foodstuff in the house that would last us for a month."

Faith
received a $446 second payment.
"With my family of two, fetching enough water every day from the river which is far away from our village has been so hard. This had been my responsibility as my children are still schooling and only come home late in the evening. Ensuring that I avail enough water to enhance their cleanliness and also for home use has been a struggle. Upon receiving the second transfer, we agreed with my husband to install tap water in our home. Buying all the materials needed and having it fixed cost us $300. I also cleared school fees for my children who had been sent home due to arrears which had accumulated to $150. Our house needed a few repairs, thus we had it sorted out for $50. With the remaining amount of $30, I obtained foodstuff for my household."

"GiveDirectly's help was genuine and the enrollment process was fair to the point that nobody needed to pay anything to the staff to be selected. I have nothing against the project, but I would be grateful if we could get an addition to help with the high cost of living."

"Everyone in our village was overjoyed to receive a free cash transfer that came with the freedom to spend it however they saw fit. The organization is doing so well because it first educates people on the best practices for using their accounts to avoid losing money to fraudsters."

Kenga
received a $431 second payment.
"I am a father to four lovely children and it’s always every parent’s dream to see their children doing well in life because this brings so much happiness to them. When I received my second transfer, I bought a sewing machine worth $180 for one of my children who had just graduated from her tailoring course. This made it possible for her to practice and earn from what she had learned in school. She has been supporting my wife and I with our basic needs at home since neither of us is working. Another one of my children was due to report for her secondary education and needed some preparations, thus we did shopping worth $100. I also bought two goats and seven chickens at $170 which we rear at home. I spent the remaining $80 on feeds and supplements that were missing from the food store. My family has benefitted immensely from GiveDirectly's generous cash assistance, which I am grateful for."

"Giving unconditional cash transfers to support the poor household in the society was the best thing that the organization did well. This has improved the living conditions of many households in our village. In addition, everyone was give the right to for enrollment without discrimination. In my opinion, there is nothing that was confusing about the whole process."

Ramson
received a $28 tenth payment.
"I am still a student and I am currently in form four. My primary goal for this year is to spend my transfer on my school fees. I do not want to be sent home for fee collection because that affects my grade. Before, my parents used to struggle to raise my school fee. As a result, I was always at home, and my performance was adversely affected. I am glad I have registered significant improvement because I have ample time in school. In addition, I am planning to use the rest on food because my parents are poor, and they struggle to raise money. Being that I have rented my own house, I have been able to meet my daily needs. I am so grateful to GiveDirectly because, without that transfer, I would have dropped out of school."
