Cynthia
received a $430 second payment.
"The support from GiveDirectly has boosted the lives of my village mates. I lack words to express the immense joy and happiness that is in my heart. In my opinion, the organization does a wonderful job of empowering both the young and old without discriminating against anyone. They took time in visiting everyone's house and saw the living condition of all the houses by themselves without depending on the grapevine information."

Sidi
received a $431 second payment.
"I got sick due to the smoke inhaled during charcoal making and I have been on bed rest for almost a month. I won't want to go back to the business once I have recovered. My short-term goal is to use some of my savings and open another business selling plastic equipment."

Esther
received a $431 second payment.
"My husband and I have two businesses, I have a salon, and my husband a restaurant. Early on when both businesses were new we would struggle to get customers because the food variety was not much and also because of the lack of electricity to provide more services to my customers in the salon. But after receiving my second transfer, I stocked the business and I now get $ 10 as the profit on the restaurant. I also stocked my salon business and I am now getting a profit of $15 a day. My children are now in a good school and I am a happy mother."

Loice
received a $431 second payment.
"In the next one year, I plan to raise enough money to pay school fees for my four children. Owing to the fact that I rely almost entirely on farming and dairy keeping to raise money to meet such expenses, I might be forced to sell one asset that we own-dairy cow to help raise the much needed school fees. The drought which stayed for quite sometime delayed our farming and it is for this reason that we might struggle to pay the fee. I am however so grateful for the support that I received from GiveDirectly."

Valentine
received a $431 second payment.
"Raising five children on my own as a single mother without a reliable job has not been an easy task. I have been running a green grocery store to earn living. With the tough economic times, the business was not doing well last year and my three children who are in high school had accumulated huge school balance. I spend $400 of my second transfer to pay the fees arrears and the balance to add more stock to my business. What gives me peace is knowing that my children were able to settle in school and do their exams and I was able to support my business which was at the verge of collapsing."

Mutai
received a $431 second payment.
"Before I was enrolled in the program, I used to be a casual worker and life was not easy especially supporting my four children and wife with the meager wages that I used to earn. When I was enrolled in the program I planned to actualize long time dream of starting a business. Since I spend the first transfer to start a selling second hand business, I spend all my second transfer to to add more stock to my business. I am happy that the business is doing well and I am able to support my family without much struggle."

Eline
received a $431 second payment.
"For the longest time, my dream has been to become a business woman but it seemed to be slipping far away because both my husband and I did not have a reliable job and we could not manage to raise capital towards the same. When I received my first transfer, I managed to set up a local green grocery store. I spend $200 to add more stock to the business and the balance to buy a couch and a table. I am happy that I now have a source of income and I can provide for my family."
