"My first priority is to rent a stall in my area and start a business of selling clothes. I have been employed to sell firewood and I would want to quit and become self employed. I am well known in my area and the population is high, providing a ready market for my business. I will be buying second hand clothes from Gikomba market and sell in Mathare and mostly I will target youths because they are trendy. Secondly, I will start poultry keeping. I have had this passion for long since I saw my grandmother venturing into this business. I will look for a place to rear the poultry, and I will be able to sell meat and eggs in Mathare and therefore hope to get a lot of profit in return. Lastly, I will use the transfer to buy slum houses for renting where I stay. They are cheap and I will be expecting rent monthly which will supplement my income."

"I spent most of my life struggling to give the best in terms of education to my children. With the little income that we got, we had to struggle a lot to get enough money to enable them stay in school. We sold almost all the household property leaving us with absolutely nothing. Although we managed to pay their school fees, the expenses made on them is still felt up to date."

"My top concern is gang violence and crime because, I live in fear of losing my life and that of my family. My neighbourhood is not secured enough, and youths who are idle or with no opportunities in life tend to be involved in crime gangs. This has made it insecure to even go out at night in some places. My top concern brings me to my concern of housing. I want to move to a better and safe home with my family and get out of the current neighborhood I reside in I also worry for the general security of people in my neighbourhood. Police usually patrol and provide security but most of the time, there have been killings by police and harassment on the youths in Mathare and other slums."

"In my old age, I never knew I could get such amount of money. My children who could provide for me are all dead. My life is dependant of my small-scale farming which I do for survival. When I received the money and it was confirmed to me by my grandson, I celebrated by singing and appreciating God for Give Directly."

"Since I am the first born in our family, most decisions are always made with my approval. They have always looked unto me even if am married elsewhere. When my mother fell sick, I recommended the hospital in she was taken for treatment. When she was almost being discharged, my family were waiting for me on how we will raise finances to help pay the bills. I was so stranded because I did not know where to get or borrow 30000KES to settle the hospital bills. My daily income from my small business could not even satisfactory provide for my family. My siblings' income could not get even quarter of the total amount required. The only option we had was to sell part of our livestock to raise the money. Right now, I feel so very proud that we did not sell anything to raise the money for paying the hospital bills. I used part of my transfer to settle the bills. My mother is doing very well even though she is not fully healed but she is way better than how she was earlier. I thank God for Give Directly."

"On that particular day, I received the money, had no money to buy the daily household requirements such as food because I did not earn much money the previous day from the domestic jobs that I do. I was so excited that immediately after praying to thank God for such a miracle, I left the house to withdraw the money at a nearby M-pesa Agent to buy breakfast and other foodstuff for the whole day."

"I recently purchased a motorbike on credit for taxi business. So far all the money made from the business has been used in clearing part of the loan. I would like to see the benefits of that motorcycle hence the decision to use my next transfer to clear the rest of the loan. I also plan to clear my son's school fees for the entire year so that he's never sent away from school for fee arrears."
