Naomy
received a $529 second payment.
"GiveDirectly has enabled me to purchase a cow. I have been much stressed on whom to get milk from to feed my children. Finding a farmer who would be willing to sell milk to me was difficult. This is because they prefer delivering it to the processing plant at higher prices. Currently, I milk my own and used it for consumption in my house and then sell that remain to the processing plant."

Lucy
received a $367 second payment.
"I spent my second transfers to expand my second hand clothes business. I started this business last year 2018, in December, after I received my first transfers. Previously, I was a community volunteer at a local Non-governmental Organization, SHOFCO(Shinning Hope for Communities), at their Mathare branch here in 4B village. I used to earn a small stipend every month. When I received my first transfers, I started out with hawking second hand clothes here in Mathare. I then expanded this business using my second transfers by acquiring a stall in Huruma Estate where I sell the clothes from. I also added new clothes for grown ups in my shop. I experienced a few challenges of recording low sales in the month of January; like is always expected in that month, but I have to say that so far my business is progressing well and picking up well."

Philister
received a $23 twelfth payment.
"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have finished paying school fees for my child. I will then start saving the money I would have otherwise used in paying school fees and use them to buy a goat. When this goat will have increased in number, I will be selling them one by one in order to use the money to pay college fees for my child so that she can further her studies. I value her education most because it is through it that she will be assured of a brighter future. I am sure that the knowledge she will gain during her studies will enable her to make wise decisions in life."

Happy
received a $548 initial payment.
"The transfer came at a time when I was in real distress now that I had a family and my house was too small for all of us. That morning I was on my house chores and I received a message notification. On checking to confirm, It was from GiveDirectly that I had received the transfer that I had anxiously waited for. The thought that I would soon build a new and spacious house brought happiness and peace again, no more distress."

Poulina
received a $548 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my life is that I paid a water bill of KES 7000. This bill had been pending for over 2 years since I did not have money to pay it. I had even been denied access to that water due to that bill. Life became really hard for me due to this since due to the state of my health I could not walk for in search of water. We are greatly affected by long dry spells and at the moment life is much better and easier for me. I water my cattle at home, access clean water and If all goes well I am planning to irrigate my garden for better crop production."

Syprose
received a $23 eleventh payment.
"In the next six months, I will have already bought a water tank. When this goal actualizes, I believe the harvested water will last me up to the next rainy season. This will save me from walking a long distance to river Yala in search of water. I will use this time to rest and do more important activities like cultivating my farm."

Gertrude
received a $199 initial payment.
"I boosted my shoe business hence increase in income, can pay rent out of my business, buy food, and school without any difficulty. Initially, I used to ask my father for frequent financial assistance sine paying rent and school fees for my children was not an easy task due to the low income I use to get from my business."
