"Previously, I used to get income from transporting goods using a hand cart at Awasi which is our nearby village market. The post-election clashes destroyed this handcart and from that day life was cruel because feeding ten members of my family were difficult. Therefore there were those days we could sleep hungry and my children stayed home due to school arrears with this hard my spouse couldn't bear hence and we had regular household conflict. My life is different in that I have cultivated the leased land which I am certain of enough yields at the end of this harvesting; I will sell the surplus and also feed my family with ease. My dairy cow which I bought with the part the transfer will have reproduced in future thus buying milk like I am doing it currently would not be the issue. I will save the money to meet other additional needs for my family and this will bring peace and a happy family like before."

"My life is different because I was able to buy new building materials which I used to erect a new house that is more spacious and can accommodate my family quite comfortably as compared to the small structure that i used to live in before. Initially I had a small house which could barely accommodate my family and it was quite uncomfortable sharing the small structure with my kids because there was lack of privacy."

"I have been able to cement the entire house using part of the transfers. i have always had the desire of making a transformation of my house to a semi-permanent house but the only hindrance has always been lack of money. I also bought a lot of modern seedlings and fertilizers that I have used in the farming process, so basically that means that I will be able to get a bumper harvest at the end of the season."

"I have made a big milestone in my life courtesy of the tranfers. I am a single mother of one and ever since I have been living in my parent's house. According to our culture, women do not inherit land from their parents. The transfers, however, took care of this as I bought land using the first transfer. Upon getting the second transfer, I embarked on building my own house on that land. The house is now ready and I am going to move in really soon. The happiness that I have immeasurable as owning land and house is like a dream come true."

When the transfers came in, I channeled them towards starting my own cereals store. The business is really doing well and I am a happy and grateful woman thanks to GiveDirectly. The proceeds are also enough to meet my family's needs well and I even have extra to save through table banking."

"Due to inadequate rainfall in our region, so many seasonal rivers have dried up. This would force my wife to travel for long distance on a daily basis looking for water for domestic use. This prompted me to spare part of my transfers to buy a water tank. With this, he will be no longer wasting much time going to fetch water. During the rainy season, we will harvest enough water to take us to the next rainy season."
