Zawadi
received a $532 initial payment.
"It has been my desire to have a good and decent house for a long time. I could not achieve this dream due to the financial constraints I was facing. However, my yearning was finally fulfilled with the coming of GiveDirectly to us because when I received my first transfer, I purchased adequate building materials such as iron sheets, building poles and other essential materials to facilitate its construction. I am glad that my house will be completed over the next month, which makes it be the biggest difference in my daily life."

"I was woken up by a message notification on my phone early in the morning and on checking to confirm who the sender was, I was greatly overjoyed and excited as I learnt the message was from GiveDirectly informing me that I had finally received my first transfer. I was even happier on the thought that I would soon join a college to get skills on hairdressing and start my salon."

"I expect my life to change in the next six months in that I will have built a new house. Titus
received a $532 initial payment.
"The moment I received my money I was so excited I could not believe my eyes. I was not expecting this to be early. I was so happy because I have never received such an amount of money before. At that moment I knew I would be able to expand the business that I had been operating. Immediately, I forwarded the message to my spouse who was at school at that time and she was so happy. She came home the next day and we laid down the plans together on the expenditure."

"The biggest hardship i have faced is unreliable source of income. I do casual jobs in people's farms and it's never a guarantee to get such jobs on a daily basis, thus providing basic needs for my children is a struggle"

Janeth
received a $532 initial payment.
"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I build a better and spacious house for my family. We used to live in a small mud house which could not host all my family members comfortably. We could sleep in one room with grown-up children which is not good at all according to my culture. My children sometimes could go to spend the night at their grandmother's house and this was quite a distance and working late in the night in our area was not secure. Whenever I had visitors it was not easy because I could take them to spend the nights at the neighbor's and it was so embarrassing at the same time. Currently, I have a place for visitors and also for my children where they do their assignment and sleep well without any interruption."

Pamela
received a $22 seventeenth payment.
"My main goal currently is to raise money so that I can construct a bigger house. We are living in a single room which is not comfortable since I have a large family and my kids are fast approaching adolescent. Once we have completed building the house, we are planning to formalize our marriage by ensuring my dowry has been paid."
