"It is my wish to be a more active player in my marriage in terms of provision of basic needs such as food, housing and education, also in decision making on matters concerning the family etc. Sadly, this is not the case as I lack the financial capacity to engage in activities that can ensure a flow of income which will ultimately earn me my husband's respect and be able to see me as an equal partner that can also contribute to the welfare of the family. "My aspiration has been to live a decent life like others in the village, but this wish has never come through. This is because, my husband abandoned me three years ago, something that has forced me to be engaged in man dominated businesses like masonry labourer, a job that has subjected me to ridicule. My earnings has never been enough to support my family's basic needs like education, food, clothing and shelter. Receiving this money means enabling me to start a hotel business in order to have a reliable source of income. I also plan to construct a good house for myself because the one I currently live in is not worthy for living. The remaining amount will support my children's education, and this is basically what receiving this money means to me."

"I expect my life shall have changed in the next six months in that I will have been being able to save money. "The transfer has enabled me to acquire a pair of oxen and an ox-plough that will support and aid me in my farming. As a farmer, using a pair of oxen is a more practical and economical alternative to tractors. They play an important role in my small scale farming in ploughing and harrowing. This pair will help me as a small scale farmer to save money that I would have otherwise used to hire from neighbours. Also, I will increase my acreage in order to increase food production. Owning this pair of oxen is the biggest difference in my daily life."

"Since I do not have a good house, my plan is to have it built in six months time. I am working towards this project and so far I have already bought some materials. The shame of living in one grass thatched house will soon be a thing of the past since GiveDirectly has given me hopes."

"The biggest hardship that I am faced with is inadequacy of farm land. The small piece of land that I have is the one I use repeatedly every season. I am not able to cultivate as I would wish to because of the limitations of space. The yields of this land are also poor because it is being used all the time. It does not have time to rest."

"Receiving this money means I will be able to renovate my house and build a pit latrine.Iam completely blind, so have no better ways of making money. I was abandoned by my spouse after getting blind and life really is so miserable. I even do digging through sensory nerves in my hands using a stick hence each year I realise little harvest to sustain the family. A pit latrine will improve hygein in my family thus preventing diseases like diaheoria , desentry from attacking us."
