"Before GiveDirectly came to us, my children used to seek shelter in the neighborhood at night and I was not at peace over this situation . Currently, Seeing my children having a decent shelter is the biggest difference in my daily life. When I received the money, I purchased enough buildings materials which include pieces of iron sheets and building poles and I am almost completing the construction of a decent house for them. They will no longer be troubled again, which gives me slot of peace."

"Owning the pair of oxen to me is the biggest difference in my daily life. I have been doing my farming using hoes which was tiresome and ineffective on a larger acreage. Cultivating my whole farm was expensive thus a large portion of the farm was sometimes left uncultivated. I could only hire oxen from neighbours for ploughing my farm, however, this was costly for me. Having my own pair will ensure that I do my farming early and timely during the planting season. I am expecting increased yields now that I can effectively plough and cultivate the whole farm on time, which will ensure food security for my family."

" My wife and I have been doing a cereals business for the last four years. With three children in secondary school our business has not been a bed of roses. Due to financial challenges we have had to depend on loans from people and microfinance. With high interest rates and business dynamics we have not been able to make much profits. Sometimes repayment deadlines catch up with us and the children's education is jeopardized. My hope is to get my own capital so that I don't have to depend on unreliable sources to run my business. "

"Investing 200 USD of my first transfer in boosting my business of selling second hand hand bags as well as building a modern chicken unit using 300 USD and adding more chicken to my poultry is what receiving this money means to me. I will then use my second transfer to pay school fees for my son in college next year hence this will help me avoid debts and calling friends and relatives for school fees fund raising ."

"When I got married as a second wife,my spouse bought a 0.1 acre piece of land for us to live in.In it was a small house in which my family lives in right now. This small house serves as both the main house as well as kitchen and is often congested. In addition to this,I have to use charcoal as fuel and this is often expensive and hard to find.Receiving this money will enable me build a separate kitchen where I can be able to use firewood as fuel. This will help us cut costs because firewood is readily available in the village.I also intend to buy a cow and some chicken so that through it my family can get an income."

"I believe that in the next six months we will have harvested maize and beans. I know I will get a bumper harvest because I upgraded my farming methods this season. I believe I will get enough sacks that will sustain us up to the next harvesting season. I will also have sold the extra maize and beans to get income that will help me to establish and strengthen my business. It will also help me boost the restaurant that I started recently."

"I believe that my life will have greatly improved in the next six months. Since I will now have enough time after completing school, I will increase the number of chicken to at least 100 hens. I hope to be making more money from selling many eggs per day. I want to focus on this farm and expand it such that I become the best and famous supplier of eggs and chicken. I know all these are possible with hard work, determination and proper management of this project"

"Six months to come, I expect to build a house for my boys. They are currently living with us since I have not built them theirs. It is really a shame to do this but my expectation are very high that I will accomplish this goal. I also expect to have bought them bed, beddings and even lit their house so that they can live and study well."

"Six months to come, I expect to be having my crops doing well. Now that I have the capacity to buy, and plant beans, this will be a great boost to the food supply in my family. This will eradicate food shortage and therefore is the joy that I really admire to have."
