"Since we are unable to harvest sufficient crops from our farms due to unfavourable climate, I have been aspiring to have an alternative source of income. My intention is to acquire a dairy cow of Kenya shillings 35,000 since dairy farming is favourable in our region. I am planning to use milk for domestic use and sell the surplus in the nearby shopping centre in order to supplement from what we harvest."

"My husband is the sole provider for this family yet he is just a casual labourer. The burden is so huge that he cannot meet our needs fully. This makes it difficult to raise as little as 1200 shillings for my children school fees in a year. My ambition is to make sure my children get educated enough to be able to secure jobs in the formal sector. I will therefore use this transfer to purchase livestock for rearing so as to finance their education."

"Receiving this money means a lot to me. I live in a single grass thatched house where I cook and sleep in it. My desire is to have a better house that is not grass thatched where it is at least comfortable for visitors who come to visit on regular basis. I have been praying a lot to get help from well wishers and at the moment I feel like there is light at the end of the tunnel. I plan to build a house of at least 24 iron sheets each costing 700 shillings."

"I never went to school and I have never been employed. That means whatever is left for me to depend on is farming. Farming is never an assured venture in this area because of prolonged droughts that hit us every now and again. The biggest hardship I have ever faced is putting food on the table for my family. I have been counting losses each and every planting season due to drought. I have now resorted to being a casual labourer in people's farms because that is what you are sure of getting returns from your labour."

"Receiving this money means achieving my dream of giving my family a better shelter. I have had this desire for a very long time because our current house is in bad state. The walls are weak and they have started collapsing. This makes it unsafe for us especially during heavy rainfall and strong winds. I will also purchase cows and continue with my livestock rearing project."

"Receiving this money means that my dream of opening a hardware store will materialize. Returns from my grocery business are only sufficient to meet our basic needs. As a single lady and parent, I have been yearning to open a hardware store in our local center because none exists. Hence, I find a great opportunity that will probably attract substantial income for our family."

"Receiving this money means that my family shall afford to buy a mature cow because we currently own a small calf that may take years to mature. In our community, cattle are highly valued because they are a sign of wealth and a source of milk for consumption and sale. Since we do not have a reliable source of income, we almost always strive to meet our basic needs and cannot afford to engage in other developmental projects."

"I have a plan of investing on livestock farming when I receive this money. Livestock farming is better for me at this old age since it does not involve a lot of physical work. I will buy one dairy cow to help me get milk for consumption. I buy milk when I have a little money but most of the time I do without. I will also buy two oxen to help me plough my farm. This will save me a lot of energy. The three will cost me around 200 USD each."

"I completed my dress making course in 2015 and since then I have not been able to reap any benefits from it. This is because I have not found any employment and I have also lacked capital to start my own business. I worked as a house maid in 2017 to raise money to buy a sewing machine but I could not save enough since I was paid little ;40 USD per month. I developed Tuberculosis ,forcing me out of work after only one year and the savings I had went into paying for the medical bills. I was under medication for six months. It has been a very difficult journey for me since I completed my studies. I depend on my husband who is a casual labourer who really struggles. Recently he bought me a sewing machine and I have hope that things will soon turn better."

"The biggest hardship I have ever faced in my life is provision of clean water to my family and cattle. I draw water from far and only relax for a short time when it is raining. Sometimes there could be prolonged drought and the longer the drought the further I go to fetch water. This is a tedious and draining task but hopefully I will be in a position to sort all these."
