"The biggest hardship we have faced in our live is that of paying school fees. There are seasons that we have had low milk yields and this made it difficult for us to gather enough money for school fee payment."

"Receiving this money means a lot to us. We are entirely dependent on farming as a family and the money will help us improve our farming practices. The money will greatly improve our profit margin and thus improve our living standards as a family. I also run a small shop keeping business and I intend to channel some of the money to improve the business."

"Lack of capital to start a business has been the biggest hardship I have faced in life. Getting lump sum money or saving some cash from my small business has become an uphill task. On a normal day, I get an income of approximately Ksh 500 per day. Keeping in mind the hard economic time we are facing, this amount is hardly enough to cater for the family and save some. Give Directly's entry into this village is timely since I will soon buy some materials to start me off."

"This money mean a lot to me because I have been wanting to build a house for long but the money I get from casual labour is not enough to save. It is only used for food and other current expenditures. Building the house is my first priority and buying a cow is the second. This is because we are currently buying milk from a neighbour."

"I lost my job due to COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020. Since then I have been home trying farming as a business but I have not been successful due to lack of capital. The dry season in this place is usually so prolonged so I would like to purchase irrigation equipment with these transfers because we have plenty of water around this farm which has not been put into use. This will enable me to be an all weather farmer and have an income throughout the year."

"I faced the biggest hardship in my life when my husband was jobless. He tried his best to make us comfortable but still we couldn't afford to buy food for our family. I would try help him some days by looking for casual jobs in the neighborhood but the pay was too little compared to the amount of work you would be asked to complete."

"Receiving this money means educating my son. My husband died long ago when my children were still young and left me the responsibility of raising 5 children single handedly. Due to the nature of my income, I was not able to see them through secondary education. However, I consider my last born lucky because this program has come at a time when he needs fees to continue with school. To achieve my dream, I will purchase goats that will continue to finance his education in the long term."

"Financial instability as a result of lack of a stable job is my biggest hardship. My husband who is the sole bread winner, does not earn enough from his marketing job which is commission based. Things have become extra difficult with this pandemic where people have to prioritize the very essential needs. Thus it is common for him to go a whole day without selling any solar panel. This situation has made it hard for us to meet our needs fully."
