"I used 38,000 shillings of my second transfer on expanding my my mobile money (Mpesa) shop and hardware store. This is because I had yearned to expand my businesses but lacked sufficient capital. Also, I spent 15, 000 shillings on paying off some debt that had given me sleepless nights."

"My life is different than it would have been if I never received the transfers in that I have bought a heifer. I always buy milk daily from my neighbor and this is so costly for me. I depend on small scale farming and sometimes do casual jobs in the village. The amount that I get paid is so little. I hardly meet the basic household items and pay school fees for my children in various schools. When my cow reproduce I will be in a position to have enough milk for my family. I will sell the surplus milk to earn an income. I will be able to reduce the time for the casual jobs and devote much of my time doing dairy family. Owning a cow has given me hope in that I know in the next few months I will have cut the daily cost of buying milk. I am so happy because this was always my wish to own a dairy cow."

"I spend the money I received from GiveDirectly to complete the construction that was on going. I used to live in a house with a dusty floor. The second transfer enabled me to buy the materials and comented the floor. I am so happy because we are no longer exposed to dust particles. I also used part of the money to pay school fees for my children. This was also a factor that I needed to consider since I didn't wanted my children to be sent home for school fees. There performance has really improved compare to previous months. Finally I bought food for the family. We had no enough food on store. I am so grateful because GiveDirectly has changed our living standard."

"My life is much better after receiving the transfer because I have afforded to own a piece of land, something that makes me feel independent. As a single mother, I have always desired to attain all the basic elements that would enable us lead a happy and independent life. Thus, owning a piece of land means that soon I will establish my residence in a place where no one will be disturbing us. Currently, I am experiencing lots of pressures and disturbance from my siblings who claim I am attracting congestion in our father's land. They say I should get married and go live elsewhere."

"Receiving the money has really changed a lot in our household, and also relieved us of the burden we previously had over the huge unsettled financial obligations. The biggest difference so far in our daily lives is the peace of mind on seeing our son actively attending classes with no pending areas. It is even amazing that we managed to clear another extra semester to cushion us from being caught up by time in the future. We are grateful to be part of the GiveDirectly's project and we are praying that all will work out well with the second transfer."

"My house is grass thatched and leaks during the rain season. Despite this condition, the roof was blown away by strong winds. This forced me to seek refuge from my neighbour together with my children. The moment I received my transfer my first priority was to construct a house, I spent $300 of my transfer on the this. I also spent the remaining amount to clear fee arrears for my children and purchased food for my family."

"In this household it is me,my brother who was born with albinism,my sister who was also born with the same condition and our mother,we literally take casual labour as our main occupation and it doesn't even earn us enough money, the biggest challenge is money,we can't afford ordinary basic needs like soap and cothes and my siblings needs special care because of their condition,it is advised not to let them walk on the sun and since they have to attend education,we have to provide them with atleast umbrellas to protect them from the sun and it is so pathetic because we can't afford all that."
