"The biggest hardship I have faced is having to drop out of secondary school because of lack of school fees. I had to join a Tertiary institution so as to learn a skill .This was going to take me a shorter time to complete and thereafter get an income generating construction job. I however dropped out on my first year again because my peasant parents could still not afford the school fees.Right now,am forced to do casual construction jobs to support my family. These jobs are unreliable-there are times that there is no construction to work on and this puts my family in a situation where their needs are not met."

"Receiving this money means a reduced worry level on where to get school fees for my son, who recently completed his high school studies and is looking forward to joining one of the universities this year. I have been wondering where to get $500 for his first semester. My spouse was planning on scheduling a date for fundraising on the same, but I thank Give Directly for coming in handy. I also intend to build a better kitchen for my family using $300 of my transfer, since the old one we currently operate in is in a deplorable condition; it leaks in water during rainy seasons. I will then use the remaining $200 to clear school fees for my other 3 children in primary school."

"Receiving this money means that my household will have an opportunity to own cattle.I sold all the cattle that I previously had, to educate my children and so as at now I have none.I am currently purchasing milk(0.35$ per litre) and this consumes most of my cash that could otherwise have been used to attend to other things.I do not have any source of income and this is hard for me"

"It was a great feeling receiving the transfer from GiveDirectly. This is one moment I had been looking forward to after enrolment as I had a lot of plans for my relieve my daughter who had been working so hard to see me happy. I really thanked God when I received and ensured that every coin counted in the projects I had in mind. Charging the phone and keeping the house lit is no longer a problem as the battery and solar we bought are working so well for us."

"I had been buying milk from my neighbor for a long period of time. Initially, a liter would be enough as my household number was not as big as it is now. With the current number, I had been buying at least two liters but only when I have money. Buying a cow with the first transfer was not an option for me as the cost of buying milk was no longer bearable. I spent 29000KES on securing a good breed currently giving us three liters in the morning and two in the evening. This has saved us the hustle and at least an easy time for my son who had always been walking over the village even during the rainy seasons in search of milk. I also spent the remaining on buying furniture, clothing that includes school uniforms, and also foodstuff after saving some with a plan to invest in poultry farming."
