How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
Our new goals are to buy more chairs and to educate our children. We want to buy more chairs because the ones that we have are fewer and we have built a bigger house. They are hence not enough for us all to sit on. We also would like to work more hard in farming so that we can raise enough money for paying school fees for our children who some are about to join secondary school. We usually depend on farming where we usually grow crops such as maize and spring onions. The maize is usually for subsistence use but we usually sell the spring onions to get income.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
GiveDirectly did well by giving out cash to the people so that they could decide on their own how to spend it. This is good because people have different needs. I did not see anything wrong with their way of work and hence I encourage them to keep up the good work.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
We spent most of the recent transfer on buying two oxen. We bought the oxen at KES 17000 per ox. We decided to buy the oxen so that they can help us in ploughing our farm. We usually hire them to do the ploughing and it is costly and time-consuming. This is because during the planting season everyone in the community wants to have his land tilled and the oxen are few. As a result, we usually end up planting late than others. We are thus glad that with the oxen we bought, we managed to plant early than usual. We also can hire the oxen and get some income. Other than the above, we bought clothes for our children and maize for consumption. We bought the maize because we no longer had any for our consumption. The size of land has become small and hence less maize planted. We had consumed the whole of the little maize that we harvested. We are thus so much grateful to GiveDirectly because of their support. May God bless you abundantly.

Describe the moment when you received your money. How did you feel?
It was around 9 am when I heard my phone ringing, I was at the farm tending to my crops, I was so happy and excited when I saw a message from GiveDirectly that I had received the promised transfer, words cannot express the kind of joy that I felt, I told my husband the good news who was equally overwhelmed with joy which revived our hopes of owning a house, We were so thankful and happy at the same time.
Describe the biggest difference in your daily life since you started receiving payments from GiveDirectly.
The biggest difference in my daily life is that I have been able to construct a decent house, unlike before where I was living in a grass thatched house and I could not afford an iron sheet- roofed house due to my unreliable source of income, I am grateful and happy that I have been able to realize my dream in a short period, It is my prayer that God may continue bLessing our donors abundantly so that they may continue touching the lives of many needy people all over the world.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
My husband and I are consistent farmers in the village, we depend on the farm produce to earn a living, together we are blessed with four children. When we received our transfer we saw it has an opportunity for us to improve our living status by building a decent house, The one that we had was grass-thatched, it was not possible before due to our financial status. We, therefore, used KES 38,000. I then used the remaining transfer to buy furniture, clothes and foodstuffs.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this money means a lot to me,I have always wanted to build a good house for my family but finance has been a challenge.Building an iron sheet roofed house has been my dream ,I have always wanted a house like my father's.Moreso the house I shall build will always remind me about give directly as an organization that came to uplift my family.
What is the happiest part of your day?
I am always happy at lunch time after feeding my whole family and seeing that they are all contented and satisfied with the food we offer. Knowing that I can now relax and have peace of mind after a day's work also makes me happier.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
The biggest challenge we had as a family was hunger in the year 2011,when I got married and had my first born Elisha.Initially I was fed at my own home but when I got married I had to struggle looking for casual work at the neighborhood in order to get some money to buy food for the family.
