"I am a youth and currently engaged in subsistence farming to support my family. My husband is a casual labourer and him being our bread winer, his monthly wages of approximately KES6500 is never enough to take care of household needs and invest in other income generating activities. To me receiving this money means a new life in our family since I am planning to spend KES50000 to build a living house and a Kitchen which give us better living conditions which have lacked in our old grass thatched house. I am planning to use KES40000 to buy a dairy cow as an added assert besides giving us milk for daily household consumption and sales to earn an extra income. The remaining KES15000, I will spend it on my family basic needs mainly food and clothing and household items."

I am planning to use KES30000 to buy household items starting with furniture since I have been luck to build a spacious house but ran out of financial to furnish it."

"The biggest difference in my daily life is that I now sleep under a very decent spacious house. Initially, I used to shelter in a small house was had a leaky roof and every rainy season, it was so hectic and I never wish anyone to face what I went through. My spouse solely depended on casual jobs earning KES 150 in a day which was too little to fend for the family's needs. Therefore constructing a better house was just a dream for us. Some of my children had even opted to say at their grandmother's house because of the situation. I am now happy and thank GiveDirectly for restoring the lost hope in our lives. In addition to that, I am now sleeping comfortably in a decent bed and I no longer complain of back pain and being ttacked by some jiggers and some other harmful insects."

"My transfer just came on time when I had seen a piece of land that was being sold, I knew that this was my only chance and perfect timing, When I received my transfer I took Ksh 40,000 and used it in purchasing a piece of land, though it was not the full amount, I am optimistic that with the next transfer I will be able to clear the remaining balance of Ksh 20,000, I used the remaining amount in offsetting my debts."

"Receiving this money means food security for my family. This is because, I have been surviving by looking after livestock for other people inorder to get food for my family. As a herdsman with a family of three,I only earn Ksh. 200 a day which is not enough to cater for my needs. With the support of this money, I will be able to purchase three cows at a cost of fifty thousand shillings. This will help me start a business of selling milk and earn me good money enough to put food on the table. I will also use some of the money to invest in my children education through buying more livestock and sell them during market days."
