"I spent the money I received on purchasing building materials and build a better and spacious timber house. I used to live in a small mud house that could not host all my family comfortably. The house was so dusty and we were being exposed to dusty related particles. For the rest of the money, I bought food and clothes. I am so grateful for the support it he changed our living standards."

"My husband and I settled on buying a dairy cow with our first transfer so that our four children would have enough milk for their daily consumption, I normally buy milk daily which is also very expensive, one litre of milk sells at KES 60, Therefore, we used 25,000 in purchasing a healthy dairy cow. In addition to that, I bought furniture worth KES 5100, I then used KES 2600 in paying school fees arrears, and lastly, I bought foodstuffs in the house. I am so happy that the health of my children would nourish with the milk intake."

"My transfer came at a very crucial time in my life, in that I had started building my house but I never managed to complete it due to lack of funds, I am a pastor by profession and our work was vastly affected by the covid 19 pandemic, since then the project was put on hold, I am happy that the transfer made me realise my goal, I managed to partially complete the building, and I am hopeful that with my second transfer I will be able to close the project. In addition to that, I was able to fence my land to secure it from outsiders and intruders. I am so happy and grateful that I was able to accomplish so much in a short period. May our good Lord continue to protect GiveDirectly as a whole."

"The biggest hardship that I have faced is the sickness of my wife. This has lead me to not be able to build a small house as well as not having good clothes because am stressed most of the times. My wife sickness also affects me in a way that I have to divide the small amount of money that I get to cater for her needs and mine. Things could have been different if we were staying together cause it means we could have been budgeting for one household, but cause of her sickness she went back home and I have to send her money now and then."

"The money will change my life, I will be able to build a good house. I have not been able to build a good house cause I depend on small grocery shop that I have and I earn less from the sales I make. The money that I earn per month is not more than Mk 30000 and I have 2 children which one of them is disable. I have to take care of them and the money is not enough to buy goods and buy needs for the family."

"When I receive this money, I will build a house, big enough for my family. The one we live in now is really small. I will also buy blankets and a mattress for comfortable sleep. I will use some of the money to buy food because we don't harvest enough because of lack of fertilizer and fall army worms that destroy the crops. This leaves us food insecure year in, year out. This money will help us better prepare for this year's cropping season by buying fertilizer and pesticides so that we have good harvest next year."
