"When I received the money, my priority was on constructing a house. This was because the initial house was leaking and in the verge of collapsing thus I constructed a 2 roomed-house with a sitting room. I bought 20 pieces of iron sheets for KES 19000.00, poles for KES 7000.00, rafters for KES 5000.00 and also I bought ridges, nails and some ropes whose value I cannot clearly recall till I go for the receipts. I spared the remaining amount for the family upkeep but once I receive the second transfer I will complete the house."

"Getting something you were not sure of getting is somehow a confusing state. I found myself a happy human being in one of the September mornings at around 9am. I was just relaxing in my poor structure which I used to call house when I got the transfer message from GiveDirectly. I was the happiest recipient in our village not because I had received a bigger share than the rest but I valued that transfer as gold in my life in relation to the hard situation I was passing through."

"I spent part of my first transfer on paying school fees for my three children who are in primary schools. Previously he used to be sent home more often due to fee arrears which used to stress me a parent. In addition to that, I bought a water tank ( 240 liters) at KES 2500 which will help me in harvesting and storing rainwater since there is a shortage of water in my village. Later on, I managed to also clear my medical bills since I have been sick for a long period. However, I did not have enough funds to and I am glad I go I after getting proper checking, I am now recovering. I spent the remaining amount of money on foodstuff which would last us up to the next season."
