"Upon cashing out my transfer, I have decided to construct a business shop and buy goods to sell. I used a portion of my initial transfer to do part payment of my children's tuition. I have four children and 10,000 was used towards my 19 year-old daughter's school while 6000 was sent to my 14 year-old son who is living with his grandmother. I will spend a similar amount upon the second cashout to complete their yearly payment and purchase food for the house while the balance will be used to start my shop construction and buy some goods."

"I spent most of the transfer which was KES 30000 on renovating and improving my house because it had been in a very poor state and condition, with old and worn out building materials which used to pose safety risks since it seemed like it could collapse anytime. This used to be the case because the only source of income I depended on was my wine tapping and selling business whose hardly enough income used to be shared among my family's immediate needs as well as my children's school fees. Therefore, I couldn't afford to have my house repaired or renovated. However, with the coming of GiveDirectly, good help came to me and I am grateful that my house is in a very good condition now and my family has a better place to sleep and there will be no safety risks for a long time. I also spent KES 13000 on buying an additional cow to partner with the one that I had bought with the first transfer in ploughing because it is more effective with two cows than one. I will be using these cows to plough my own land as well as for others at a fee which will raise me some income to help me to meet my family's immediate needs. This income will also complement the produce that I will get from my farm. I am so grateful for I now have something that will keep me and my family going for long, all thanks to GiveDirectly."

"With the second transfer, we had a plan of buying a dairy cow since we didn't have one. We bought a heifer worth Kshs.40,000 which will calf in four months and hoping to get adequate milk for consumption and we can sell the surplus to earn an extra income. With the remaining amount, we cleared school fees for our three secondary school children."

"We spent KES 20000 from the second transfer on paying for my college fees. I have trained as a teacher and the ministry of education wanted us to upgrade our studies because of the new curriculum that was introduced in the country. I hence had applied to go back to college to do the upgrading but I did not have the money for paying for my studies. Coincidentally the college acceptance letter was sent at the time when we got our first transfer. We were very happy because it enabled me to join college. The second transfer enabled me to clear the balance that I was still having. If it was not for the transfers from GiveDirectly, we could have borrowed a loan so that I could join college. Apart from the above, we also spent KES 10000 on paying for a debt that we owed someone. The remaining amount we used it in buying food for our consumption and some household necessities such as sugar, soap, cooking oil, etc. Thank you so much GiveDirectly for the support that you gave us."
