How is your life different than it would have been if you never received the transfer?
My new goal is to start a new business. I would like to start this business purposely to help my family. Before Givedirectly came to my town, I was serving as a daily contractor for the amount of 300LD daily and such money could be used for my son's medication and the balance used to purchase food. Starting a new business will help me sustain my family and continuously pay my four children tuition when Givedirectly is no longer helping us.
In your opinion, what does GiveDirectly do well, and what does it not do well?
Givedirectly does extremely well with their cash transfer program which has changed my life. I hardly got such a huge amount to do something of my own, but with the help of Givedirectly, I am becoming a better person.
What did you spend your most recent transfer(s) on?
Upon cashing out my transfer, I have decided to construct a business shop and buy goods to sell. I used a portion of my initial transfer to do part payment of my children's tuition. I have four children and 10,000 was used towards my 19 year-old daughter's school while 6000 was sent to my 14 year-old son who is living with his grandmother. I will spend a similar amount upon the second cashout to complete their yearly payment and purchase food for the house while the balance will be used to start my shop construction and buy some goods.

What does receiving this money mean to you?
Receiving this cash transfer means quality education for my kids. For the past one year I have been struggling to pay my children's tuition because their father who was fully responsible for them abandoned me. I do not have a reliable source of income which makes it very difficult for me to pay their tuition. I feel very sad every time they have to drop out of school because of school fees. I plan to use a portion of this cash transfer to pay their full tuition and also use the rest to establish a business which will enable me earn an income to sustain us. I strongly believe that if my kids are educated they will secure better job opportunities in the future to support us.
What is the happiest part of your day?
What brought me joy and happiness in the last six months is an assistance that I received from my brother. Securing food for my kids is a very serious challenge for me because I do not have a reliable source of income. For the past two years I have been struggling to meet the basic needs of my family. Last month, my brother assisted me with some money to enable me buy food for my kids. I felt so relieved when I received the money because it was like a burden has been lifted from my head.
What is the biggest hardship you've faced in your life?
Unreliable source of income is the major challenge that I am currently facing. My spouse who was the sole breadwinner of our family abandoned me about a year ago making things very difficult for my family and I. My kids are presently out of school due to financial constraints. I feel very embarrassed because I can not meet the basic needs of my family.
