"The biggest difference in my daily life since I started receiving money from GiveDirectly is that I used to have a house with weak walls but I now have one with reinforced walls with concrete pillars. I didn't have livestock before but with the coming of GiveDirectly to our village, I was able to get some that would even help me to meet my family's immediate needs. I am so grateful and happy."

"It was around 4pm in the evening and I was at home doing laundry when I received the SMS confirming that I had received the money from GiveDirectly. I couldn't afford to get myself these things because my local kiosk business hardly raised enough money to enable me get them. I am, therefore, so happy to have been able to address these challenges that were so pressing."

"It was around 2pm in the afternoon and I was just relaxing at home when I received the text message confirming that I had received the money from GiveDirectly. I was so happy when I got the money because I knew that it would give me a step forward especially in getting my own land to be carrying out agricultural activities with freedom. This was because I used to lease the land I used to be farming which was only limited to the seasonal maize farming and not any other thing, as my job as a local food café waitress hardly paid me sufficient salary to help me buy my own land. Therefore, I am so happy and grateful for this help I received from GiveDirectly."

"I spent Kshs.20,000 in building a three-roomed iron-roofed house. We had been living in a single grass-thatched house which would leak during the rainy season hence not conducive to spend the night because of cold. With Kshs.26,000 we used to purchase a heifer which will calf in a few months been buying costly milk and at times we would end up drinking strong tea just to satisfy ourselves selves before commencing our daily activities. I am hopeful that once it calves we will get adequate milk for consumption and also we can get a surplus to sell to get an extra income. With the amount that remained, we used to buy maize which will sustain us pro harvest season. I am super grateful for the support we have so far received from Givedirectly."
